[OFFICIAL] GTX 670 Overclocking - Page 110

I don't think it matters if you OC the BLK or not. Not sure if I am understanding correctly but the gpu and cpu are independent of each other. They OC one at a time. Raising one will not affect the other as far as clocks are concerned.

cool, that's what i was wondering if there was some link between the CPU speed and the GPU speed and whether a non-K CPU is holding back my OC abilities on the 670. but if you say that's not the case then ok that's good enough for me.

I've got a pretty weird behavior with Kepler boost...

My stock KB is +91, making it 1150. When I overclock the core between +60 and +80 KB starts to act strangely, at +60 the max boost goes up to 1215, making it +96, but it stays at 1215 boost from +60 through +71, at +72 it jumps to 1227.7 and stays like that till +80, which goes back to the normal +91 KB giving a 1230 max boost with every +1 counting towards it.

Now, I thought that could be a glitch with the monitoring software, but GPU-Z, eVGA PrecisionX and MSI Afterburner give the very same readings, I fired up 3dMark 11 for a quick test and I get the same graphics score with +60 than I do with +70 (higher offset is not fully stable).

This is the result with +60 offset:

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/4034242

And this with +70:

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/4034295

Managed to get a run with +80 offset:

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/4034968

Anyone else getting this?

Also, does 3dmark 11 not like memory OC? with no overclock on the memory I get 9600's, with +750 only 200~ points more.

That's nomal the frequency increment's go up 13hz at a time, try back off the memory and see if you gain points. You can go to high on it and not get any improvements even though its stable

It goes 1200(+50) - 1202(+55) - 1215(+60) - 1227(+72) - 1230(+80) with no apparent improvements in between, so trying to "fine tune" like the guide posted in this forum suggests is kind of pointless.

Tried backing down the memory to +500 and I did get a lower score: 9775, I think 3dmark just doesn't like memory OC, I get a much higher improvement overclocking the memory in Heaven, it seems kind of silly seeing people with 10k~ in 3dmark getting the same score in heaven as me.

No its not so long as your cpu is stable you wont get any wierd issues.

Messing with the BLK will mess with the pci bus but not the actual gpu clocks or anything. I have read about pushing it too much and it can even corrupt hard drives since the data gets all jumbled up I assume. With intel its really not worth it on a K processor though.

OK, I thought there was some weird dependency between the two.

I think you might have been thinking about the BLK, which kinda does tie things together since its the clock that the whole system counts off of, but yeah, not an issue so long as you leave it alone.

Replaced my Gigabyte GTX670 OC TIM with MX-4. Temps in Heaven have gone from 69/70C with Antec Formula 7 to 79C with MX-4 mad.gif
Had a look at modifying the heatsink to reduce the gap, but is too difficult without a dremmel. Card overclocks well but temps are annoying.
