I've heard other people report strange behavior with the modded BIOS also - I just got the stuff to do the AIO water mod for my 680 so I'm going to give it a shot here soon. I already get 1280 though, so I doubt it'll help me much - but I'm tired of the noise.

It s only in some games like bf3 , but on bf 3 at stock it crash i have to back it up to 1250. i had some red line rarely on world of tank , but nothing on farcry 3 skyrim or dirt 3.
crash happen but it s rare and i only want to push it to 1500 and beyond for benchmark not for gamming and 24/7 oc anyway.

Driver crash and artifacts are for all cards when you push the oc , i think my best firestrike score i did see maibe 10 sec of the second test before it was all flash and black screen , but stil it passed and i got a better score so i don t even want to imagine what guys at 1850 -1900 see , but trust me it will be full of artifact no matter the quality of the card, amd or nvidia doesn t change anything,..

people saying they run at more then 1300 and tell you they never have any problems lies for the most ,.... the drivers are not made to be run at twice the stock speed , the chip is not made to run at twice the speed ,...

high oc is never pratical for everyday use the problems, time spend and intial price higher plus the impact on component lifetime, all that far outrun any gain in performance, you do that because you like to oc but that the only real point.

Remember, if you get artifacts in one game, and not in most other ones, it means your card is not stable. Your card just happens to run into a game that just pushed the limitations. In 3DMark11 I can push 1401mhz and it artifacts once or twice. When in Crysis 2, it will cause a hard crash. Only in Crysis 2. So I back it down to 1380.

Keep in mind that the keplar series doesn't benefits from higher oc much. It benefits from higher memory oc. I did several benchmarks on this months ago . It showed going from 1215 to 1315 to only benefit me a few extra fps. Increasing memory OC an extra +400-500 helped me gain 5-7 extra fps at most (there are games that benefitted more and some much less). But at the expense of higher voltage and more heat thus requiring more fan speed=noise.

my point is that no matter the cooling or the card none is 100% stable and atrifact free at 1300+ mhz by these standard and yes the benefit is little , i get better result with my hd 7970 and far less instability. i can get my mem at 1850 and core at 1200 without changing any voltage and my card stay under 60 degres.

the red line in wot i think they come from my settings but not sure , the bf3 problems is comming from card with high stock oc but it come from the driver which like i said before are not made to run at these speed, but like most of the asus 670 top they do have more problem then other but they oc better too.

i agree that the extra noise and voltage in a expensive gpu doesn t worth the 10 fps too that why i was saying that i oc for benchmark and for the sack of it . so i dont care about the small instability.

Did some benchmarking without pushing the stock voltages. Also played Crysis 2 with Dx11, High Res text and everything on extreme. Stable

Hi

I have a problem I overclocked my card to 1215MHz and now its stuck it does not clock down it just runs at 1215MHz all the time (Gigabyte Windforce GTX 670) does anyone have any suggestions.

Are you using Precision X, if so you may have checked " Kboost" option under adjust voltage menu, this was the case for my 680m also until I noticed the option had been turned on without notice.

Where do you get 1300 being twice stock speed? The boost clock is 1006, at least, so that's only a 30% overclock, and the driver doesn't care what speed the card runs at. There are plenty of people runnig 1300+ with modded BIOSes.
Indeed 1300 is more than possible to run without problems if the card is capable. It is a low percentage of cards that can do so but they exist, my card can bench at 1411 core which has been run with a 24/7 clock setting at 1372/85 with a modded bios for some time now and have yet to have a crash. At the end of the day GPUs are just like CPUs, take for instance the SB and IB, some can do 5ghz without problems where as others cant get past 4.5ghz, its the luck of the draw.
