[OFFICIAL] GTX 670 Overclocking - Page 60

It will be, because the numbers in GPU-Z are calculated based on formulas in it's internal database for the particular card it's detected (in this case, GTX670). The clocks you've set factor in to these calculations of course, but at equal clocks every 670 will show all the same numbers in GPU-Z, always. There's no 'real-time' determination based on actual performance of that particular card sample going on, iow.

I am curious though about this variability in Heaven scores as well, but frankly it's not large enough in scale to motivate me to undertake the effort to try to determine what the underlying cause is wink.gif

zander pretty sure you need ivy to get pci-e 3.0 thats why and don't sweat it cause 2.0 bandwidth is more than enough for any video card

I've noticed in GPU-Z during both idle and load my pci-e interface is 1.1 16x @ 1.1 16x, shouldn't it be 2.0 or something? Using p5k-premium socket 775. EDIT: Found out now that p5k-premium only supports pcie 1.1 could that bottleneck the card, or give the card insufficient power or something?

I'd like to add also that when playing BF3 I get huge FPS drops when looking in a distans, and at the same time as this happens I see that my GPU Usage goes down from about 80% to 50-60% or even less. You would think it'd go up during something demanding. And as I mentioned earlier, in Heaven i get 99% load through out.

I've also noticed that my 4gb ddr2 RAM has been using up to 4002 mb, while playing BF3. Can RAM be a bottleneck in that case and lowering the GPU Usage?

Thanks in advance.

I can only say for sure that BF3 do needs more than 4GB to run efficiently !
I've put 2x2GB DDR3 Kingston along with my old 2x2GB OCZ a week ago, the game runs better and loads A LOT faster.
Now I need to wait before I can move on round start, due to the clock timer that I've never seen before biggrin.gif (I used to get ingame when a few flags were already capped, or bombs set ...)

As for the pci-e 1.1. I've seen many reviews showing that, while the pci-e 2.0 is almost the same as pci-e 3.0, pci-e 1.1 does reduce the performances by quite a few % ! (talking about x16 speed here)

Seems like the GTX670 is kind of overkill on your current computer rolleyes.gif

Thanks in advance.
My PCI was also running at 1.1 on GPUZ i had to clear my CMOS to get things cleared up and now it runs at 2.0 and works fine.

Okey, i will try putting a 2 or 4 more gigs of RAM. About the Pcie 1.1, I have luckily found some great reviews that compare pcie 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 ( http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Express_Scaling/1.html ) according to that review and at the resulotion 1920x1200 (closest to 1080p) the diffrence between 1.1 and 2.0 is between 1-5%. It seems that with higher settings = closer to 60 fps the bottleneck shrinks alot. It's a 680 but that's pretty comparable to a factory OC 670 I guess.

So the performance hit from being on pcie 1.1 when it comes to bandwidth doesn't bother me that much after seeing that review, though i still wonder about the diffrences in power as pcie 1.1 can give the card 75w while 2.0 can give it 150w through the lane. Could this affect overclocking potential or anything else?

Could it affect stability as I'm getting flashes/glitches in Heaven 3.0 here and there, some runs there's perhaps 2 flashes and other runs 4-6 flashes (Light blue split second flashes over the entire screen)? Factoryclocked. IF I'm the only one getting these and the fact that pcie 1.1 gives less power through the lane than pcie 2.0 does not affect the card, my card simple must be broken it seems...

Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want return a functionall card, so want to make sure if it is the card that truly is broken or if it's something else in my system causing these glitches/flashes.

This wont be making a difference. Ive seen people with the same card, lower clocks and running with Newhelm i7's ( so obviously they aint running with pcie3) getting better results than me in heaven. Also im Getting crazy good fps in all games and great 3d mark 11 scores. PCIE3 is pretty much redundant at the moment as you said, so it shouldn't be effecting my heaven score at all.

I'm a little bit confused by your post. tongue.gif

EVGA stock (*not SC) GTX 670. Using MSI ab. Current clocks...

2z87wv4.jpg

At 6020x1200 (bezel corrected)- haven't really had any need to push it further. Kind of annoyed this thing is so powerful to be honest, as I really wanted to go SLI - for aesthetics, as much as performance. Kind of finding it hard to excuse buying another atm though... ~£300 is a lot to pay just for beautification.

Still though, amazing cards. So glad to have finally ditched ATI and their buggy drivers. Pretty much every complaint I had when using Eyefinity is remedied in Nvidia's implementation of Surround. thumb.gif

Edit: Only just noticed the Pcie 1.1 in GPU-z... mad.gif

Nothing to worry about with power on the PCI-Ex lane. I'm actually pretty sure both 1.1 and 2.0 are only rated to provide 75W, dunno where you got that 2.0 does 150W.

Also, any power that your board isn't providing, but that the card needs, it would just pull from the PCI-Ex connectors. As long as your PC isn't shutting down when you put a heavy load on it, then the power being supplied to the card is fine.

If you're getting light blue flashes all over the screen running Heaven at stock clocks, and your temps are within normal range, then I'd return the card, personally.
