[OFFICIAL] GTX 670 Overclocking - Page 65

These cards cab be frustrating or maybe its BF3 I never know. I have gamed for quite a few hours at 1266. Today I was in a game for like two minutes and it froze. Not sure if its my OC I thought it was for sure stable this time. But it sucks to be kicking ass and have it freeze and lost all your stats so I'm down to 1260.

I am contemplating getting the gigabyte GTX 670 OC but I am not sure if the car will even fit into the case I have (thermaltake armor a30) and while the sapphire HD 7950 OC fits it just barely with a small gap to spare.

Check101, what are your ACTUAL clocks, like when you run a 3d application and check the graphs in AB/PrecX? Cause the clocks we report on all these OC'ing threads are actual clocks, not what displayed on the front of GPU-Z ... those are not accurate, due to the 'Kepler Boost' that these cards all have.thumb.gif

Right now I'm debating between a GTX 670 FTW and the Gigabyte version. Which one is quieter? redface.gif
post #645 of 1459
iirc, the ftw uses the gtx 680 cooler, so it's probably louder than the windforce cooler.

The GB will definitely be quieter and cooler, but if clocks are more important to you, you should have a look here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1266940/which-670-has-the-best-lottery-lets-do-the-stats

The FTW has much better OCing potential than the GB based on what people here have seen.

I currently have 2 in SLI and couldn't be happier, the external exhaust was too important when considering SLI.

Much better POTENTIAL? I dunno about that wink.gif

Here's my GB 670 at 1391/3386 ... lemme know when you see an FTW pull this off thumb.gif

Note also that despite this OC, the temps are around 54C, at only 56% fan speed. Barely audible. To keep an FTW at 54C fully OC'd you'd need the fan to be blasting.

Also the thread you linked shows that FTW gives you slightly better odds of hitting 1300 or more than a GB, but it's not dramatically different odds, really.

As of the current stats, it's basically (9/18) odds = 50% of FTW's hitting 1300+, and (13/29) = 45% of GB's hitting 1300+.

But on the flip-side of that equation, you have (3/18) odds = 16% of FTW's hitting LESS than 1200MHz, and only (2/29) = 6% of GB's hitting less than 1200MHz wink.gif

The FTW is definitely better at exhausting warm air from the case, and evga's customer service is 2nd to none, but the GB is cooler and quieter, and by far most of the very top OC'ers have been GB cards, although admittedly like I said above the stats show that on average a slightly higher % of FTW's are hitting 1300+.

I love my GB, I wouldn't trade it for world ... but I did get a fairly golden card smile.gif

Each to his own. I just wanted to state that for that survey, the FTW seemed the best to hit 1300. Granted, it seems that the highest clocks are GB, but those are far and few between. From the people that I have talked to, getting a FTW to 1300 isn't too hard as a good portion of them can.

So yeah, as you said, if you think you got luck on your side, go GB hands down as you will get better clocks if you get a good card, but getting that good card is better with the FTW, even though the clocks might not be as high.

I would also like to add that my card maxes out at 70C with the fans around 60%, which I can't hear over my case fans (they are pretty quiet as well).

Another thing on the poll... I could only vote once, but I have two FTWs at these clocks tongue.gif

Also, hot damn dude. 1391 is impressive thumb.gif

So I did another run of Heaven Benchmark, and recorded the clocks. 1252 MHz GPU clock, 2504 MHz Shader Clock, 3197 MHz Memory Clock. Score on Heaven was 1251, with average fps of 49.7. These results seem below what others are getting.

As a side note, I notice that if I leave the cover for the side vent on my case, the gpu temp seems to go above 70 degrees in normal use. But if I remove it, the temps usually don't go above 68 degrees. So, would it probably be a good idea to put a fan on the side? But then that defeats the purpose of this case to reduce noise... Or should I put high airflow fans in the front and back?
