As a side note, I notice that if I leave the cover for the side vent on my case, the gpu temp seems to go above 70 degrees in normal use. But if I remove it, the temps usually don't go above 68 degrees. So, would it probably be a good idea to put a fan on the side? But then that defeats the purpose of this case to reduce noise... Or should I put high airflow fans in the front and back?

I get better temps with the side fan on extract as opposite to the standard intake. (pretty huge fans in my HAF932)

I got my Evga gtx670 FTW in SLi surround not too long ago. I decided to watercool them with the new EK style block. I don't like the looks of them, but they function just as well.

I'm happy with boosting both to run at 1.3 Ghz on the core and a little more on the mem too. It's nice to have them peak at 44c under load compared to air which I had a hard time keeping under 70c with my case and Sli stacking on the motherboard.

375

I did boost the settings on the second card as I wanted it to keep up with the primary card by a few Mhz. If I used the sync option, I would see the secondary running much lower than the primary.

I still have some more testing to do, but it's nice to run both cards o/c'ed with my i7 970 o/c to 4.2Ghz and only need to have a quad rad to keep everything cool.thumb.gif

Can the Gigabyte GTX 670 OC 2GB power 3 x 1080p monitors? more over is 2GB enough VRAM to power the 3 monitors?

My current monitor config is below:

- Monitors not configured to run in any surround display mode, just extended desktop of 3 monitors
- I run all games on the middle screen leaving the peripheral screens showing the desktop

do nvidia cards automatically set to nv surround when the all monitors are plugged in or do i have to configure it to be in nv surround?

I don't plan to change the above monitor configuration/setup when going between amd and nvidia as I don't plan to play in nv surround/eyefinity but having the extra monitors is good when viewing multiple documents or using photoshop.

You can turn 'surround' mode on/off, yes, and a 670 will handle this config perfectly. 2GB is enough to run 3 monitors in surround, at least for the vast majority of games, but since you won't even be running surround based on your description, you don't even have to concern yourself with it. The two extra screens that you aren't using for gaming won't use up any extra vram to speak of.

would be cool if there was some indicator of VRAM usage of the monitors tongue.gif

EDIT: Currently, all 3 monitors on 2D mode are using just a tad under 300mb but i have seen games like max payne 3 and BF3 go to up to 1.6GB of VRAM usage.

In ARMAII, I oft get 2GB of VRAM usage and windows make me close it.

So yes, games can easily use 2GB...

This is @ 1920 x 1200 with no AA and not maxed settings. tongue.gif

fair enough but it just sounds like crappy optimization to me!

Course it is.

BF3 uses 1.8GB for me...!

Just saying, 2GB is not enough.

3GB is probably the sweet spot for a few years, 4GB being excessive, but nice to have.

that's a shame since there's no GTX 670 or 680 that is 3GB and the prices for the 4GB versions are too much for me it just means i may either...

1. drop back to 1 monitor

OR

2. just stick with my 7950 until Nvidia release 3GB cards as standard.

even though the GTX 670 beats out the 7950, i just think that the VRAM is very much not enough and i do agree with you on that especially having 3 monitors running atm. so i'll just stick with the 7950 just cos it has 3GB of VRAM with a larger memory interface of 384-bit IIRC. sure i may miss out on things like physx and the cuda stuff but all the games run pretty well for me even if i have to overclock on top of the factory OC just to compensate for my 3 monitors.

Looks like my Asus indeed has some nice ram. I don't know how much higher i can push it. Core clock is almost at his max.

*edit*

Just noticed the afterburner settings in the screenshot aint correct. I pressed profile button 5 just before snapping the shot.
