1GB nVidia GT 525M none existent on my new laptop???

Thread Starter
Purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 R laptop supposedly with graphics provided via 1 GB nVidia GeForce GT 525M. However, it only seems to be using the onboard Intel HD graphics. When I use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool the Display Tab reports the following:

Display Devices
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
DAC type: Internal
Display Memory: 1696 MB
Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
Shared Memory: 1632 MB
Current Mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Native Mode: 1366 x 768(p) (59.992Hz)

Is this consistent with the nVidia Card specified above?

CPU-Z also reports the same.

You're corect, that's just the Intel HD graphics showing there. I'd contact Dell, or whoever you purchased it from.

Did you see if it's in device manager?

Yeah it doesn't show in device manager either. However, it does show and bench with SiSoft Sandra so I think it is working fine, just a bit strange that it doesn't show in some programs.

Have you installed the latest Nvidia drivers? If you have optimus support or switchable graphics, that could also be the issue.

You mostlikely have the type of mainboard that allows switching between the two graphics cards on the fly.

I'd make sure you have the latest drivers installed. If it shows up ion the device manager after that, make sure it is the default display device.

If its still not working, contact Dell and tell them about the problem.

I had the same problem on my Lenovo Y570 I bought. The 555m in it just is non-existent (Ends up the card is dead and I have to RMA the thing :/). I would call dell or take it to the company you bought it from. But you can first try to find the latest drivers and make sure you switch the graphics to the dedicated GPU(if applicable.) If you go to Devise Manager and you don't see that GPU you might have a broken GPU and you will need to talk to the place you bought it from to get a new one.
