Piledriver vs. Bulldozer - Page 2

I believe this is pretty much wasted energy as you can't simulate the changes that Vishera will have any more than you could take a Llano laptop APU and simulate the many changes in Trinity laptop APUs.

We're just going to have to wait until Vishera/Piledriver shows up and see how much improvment there is. I'm expecting ~15% at the same frequencies with higher frequency models available - much like Trinity laptop.

There is no use comparing, the real piledriver for the fx series of chips will be totally different(not totally but you get the point), production is still months away. They have almost half the die to add all the other goodies to the pipeline.

Actually, PD is BD 2.0. The only real major change is they are switching to a "resonant clock mesh" which creates a uniform time sequence across the whole die (I'm not going into the long explanation go here for that http://www.extremetech.com/computing/119507-amd-to-use-resonant-clock-mesh-to-push-trinity-above-4ghz). AMD has stated it will allow a 25% decrease in power consumption. Other than that they are just tweaking the Bulldozer "modules" for greater effecieny (YES Piledriver is going to use the same architecture as FX).

I know this already. Never said it was a different arch. But it is enough to set it apart from the first gen, which makes it different. The only similarities will be the module like cores.

The modules themselves will be basically the same with a few improvements, the CPU-NB will be the same etc, the onboard GPU will be much improved and the resonent clock mesh will be the major improvement. I'm really looking forward to see how PD performs with that.

I'm in the same boat, I got an AM3+ mobo when I built this system because I was preparing for Piledriver and everything I read so far says it will be utilizing the same socket and chipset as BD. If Vishera is as much of a flop as Zambezi was I will have to swap out for Ivy Bridge. I also need to save up an extra $500 to replace my GTX 460 with a 680 first but I still have 2 quarters.
