First Intel Gaming PC Build

Thread Starter
Well, I am planning to build my first computer this summer. I am only 15 and very inexperienced. I really need some one to "hold my hand" through this build. I am looking for someone to improve my build without going over my low 600$ budget. Here are the specs so far.

Intel i3-2120
EVGA GTX 550 ti
ASUS P8H61-M LX Plus
Kingston HyperX Blu 8gb 1333
Cooler Master GX 450w
Cooler Master Elite 430
ASUS CD/DVD Burner
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500gb SATA 6gb/s
Windows 7 64bit

All that after MIR's comes to 590$. Any room for improvement? Would going for an AMD build benefit me, price to performance wise. I am just looking for best gaming performance for my money, and the i3 seemed like a great choice. What should I do? Thanks!
I'd take a nice amd over the i3 better cost/performance ratio

Hmm I've never been a fan of AMD Processors really but, they are significantly cheaper and with the specs on an i3, an AMD might be worth looking at!

Here's just a quick check on New Egg of some faster quad core processors [AMD]

the i3 blows both of those out of the water.

anyway OP, might want to look at a Llano build.

Do you have a certain budget you need to stay under? That might help us with your build

Um, no, not really. They trade blows. If I had to choose, I would go with the 965. It has 4 actual cores, unlike the i3 which has 2 cores, 4 thread (HT). Plus, it's easily overclockable.

I agree the i3 is a good processor but you should look at the 960t from amd. intel motherboards are more expensive for the features too.
Worse than crack.

Thanks, I wasn't really reaseraching compartive specs, just showing him some options in his price range, and yea everything is a trade off...

Good point about intel mobo being more expensive as well
