Asus gtx 680 running hot?

Thread Starter
My reference 680 from asus appears to run hotter than average.

ambient temp 30.7C

according to Asus GPU Tweak:

Idle: 59c with auto fan speed (36%)

idle: 43c with manual fan setting to 85%

Load playing Diablo 3: 77C manual fan setting of 60% (setting where I can't hear the vid card fan over system fan noise), at 85
%, it sounds like jet taking off.

Are these temps too high, or it is because my room's ambient temp?

Most of the temps I've read for these reference cards are idling at ~30C, but most don't list their ambient temp.

My card heat up by ~28C over ambient temp, is this normal? Does this mean others run their rig in a freezer, ie 0-2C ambient temp to get idling at 30C?

Please help, if it is a faulty card, I still have 2 weeks to to rma to Newegg.

Thanks

That does seem to be quite a bit warmer then most cards indeed. Perhaps rma it just to be safe.

repaste the card. 59C idle...dood. That's nuts! Gotta be a bad seat or bad paste.

59c is very high for idle. However, I don't see a problem with this, since the fans can run nice and low.
77c on load is normal. On a dual slot cooler thats what you get, accompanied with a ton of noise.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your card. I see the same temps on my MSI 560Ti (although with a lower idle temp) and the same noise when the fans kick in at 80% during load.

If you want less noise and better temps take a look at The Mod

Way high dude, my 680's idle at 32 and 28, under load (BF3) 60 and 58 max. This is in a HAF 912 advance.

Its your ambient temps if it is 30 in you roomthe ambient inside the case will be 40-45 when on. Turn on ac and see if temps drop off.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

I've decided to rma to Newegg.

Maybe get a Asus Cu II Top when they restock.

Seriously...who cares for idle temps? Load temps is what matters.

77C is fine.
