Opinion: What are signs of a faulty dvd drive?

Well, there are many signs of a dodgy dvd drive, some well known, some not so well known. In this faq I am going to go over some of the causes briefly.

Really slow to boot-up pc. - This may seem like an odd one but if you are having really slow boot-up times then it could be the reason.
DVD drive not reading DVDs
DVD:RW failing to write DVDs
DVD drive exploded
DVD drive on fire (or starts to smoke)
DVD drive invisible *hint, you may have to buy one*
DVD drive fails to open - You may want to do the manual way of how to get into it by using something very small but firm (like a paper clip) to press in the pinhole in front of the drive to open the tray.
Being unable to get into My Computer/other things.
DVD drive lense dirty
DVD drive not being recognized by windows/whatever/bios
Whilst playing/installing a game to randomly die on you
Bug stuck in dvd drive
DVD getting no power *make sure you have plugged it in*

Thats all I can think of now, feel free to suggest more.
