Nope, Google being so lenient and uncaring for their product knowing darn well that handset makers couldn't give less of a crap about OS updates than Apple cares for non-rounded rectangles is a bad thing, and is something we should criticize Google for.
Looking at WP7, MS has stricter rules and guidelines unlike Google.

There product is Android, it's an 'open' platform, you start controlling it like WP7 and iOS and guess what? It stops being open platform.

The sheer open source nature of Android is the reason why it's grown so much.

The only thing stopping newer versions of Android coming to older phones is the hand set maker, The hand set makers are the ones that have to code, port, re-write, bug test and handle the updates and if they can't be bothered and don't feel it's worth it then it aint happening.

That is not Googles fault so stop trying to swing it that way.

>.> I thought this was OCN where stuff is done for "the pursuit of performance" not "the pursuit of stock". Like everything has ICS unofficially. My G2x, (which is a bit buggy) will likely never see official ICS and the only real bugs are due to it having a Tegra 2 chip. Even so it runs 99% fine so with Nvidia Tegra 2 ICS drivers it would be perfect.

Yea, my Optimus 2X was pretty good on ICS but the lack of GPU rendering UI was pita because Nvidia has never released any code for it.

Still with Tegra 3 and the HTC One X someone might be able to reverse engineer a Tegra 2 driver eventually smile.gif

Except open platforms like Android do have rules. Google just sucks at enforcing them

Remember when they promised 2 years or so of updates to ICS phones? And how it's not happening anymore?

same difference!people will still search ways even if they have to pay to get the software directly from google !why?same reason people build their own computer!they chose what goes in!

I would consider another OS but I do like android alot, just the letdown of support for my phone makes me unhappy.
That's cheap lol, especially if it includes a data plan and unlimited text messaging.

I hope this gets pushed to my Nexus S 4G when it's done. I don't know when I'm due for another upgrade, and I don't want to pay retail price for a phone when I can upgrade for much less or just use the OS on my existing phone.

That being said, I'll won't care about this if the iPhone 5 has appealing features (4G, 4"+ 'retina' screen, NFC).

We want to tweak it ourselves, not have some manufacturer tweak it for us. We prefer starting from stock and modifying it to our liking.

I meant like get Cyanogenmod 9 or AOKP or etc. Just start with ICS based rom and customize it. Hence mentioning my G2x running an unofficial version of ICS based CM9. Reason being? It may have some bugs but it has MUCH higher performance then GB roms.

Ahh yes I see what you mean now and I totally understand that reasoning. However I prefer vanilla Android over CyanogenMod. If the device doesn't have vanilla android however, then the first thing I'll look for is a CM7 or CM9 (depending on the device) ROM for it.

Yes XDA will help get latest OS version but you are entering a world of Beta testing and bugs. I had to go so many different version of ICS 4.0.4 before i found a stable one i liked.
