[TG] Google Splitting Android 5.0 Jelly Bean to 5 Manufacturers - Page 7

Good. I bet Verizon is one of the hugest reasons for this decision. I'm still waiting for my 'official' 4.0.4 update. Verizon screwed up HUGELY.

lol well put. My Gnex is anxious for 5 JellyBean to drop. Give it a week and there will be 10 roms going above and beyond. Best part about android...make your phone work for you!

Yes XDA will help get latest OS version but you are entering a world of Beta testing and bugs. I had to go so many different version of ICS 4.0.4 before i found a stable one i liked.

Do a bit of reading, I'm on AOKP r36 with franco kernel r162. Both the rom and kernel have been super stable for me for well over 2 months, with wonderful improvements. If youre worried stick to milestones smile.gif

I too have been running AOKP for a while now, and while there have been bugs in the past, it was never big enough issues that I wasn't able to use the phone. Plus, it's not like cupcake didn't have it's issues.......

If I had more time on my hands, I would sit down and do it, but at the same time, I still want to like my phone stock, or even Verizon for that sake. They have given me a very bad impression as a whole with this issue.

It's really very easy. I think it's just a little more in depth than my gnex, but still shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Just make sure you follow the instructions to a T.Also, usually devs for popular devices will make a few "stock" aosp roms for people like you that prefer the stock experience.

Oh I know this. It was the same with the iPhone. Actually probably a bit easier. I just prefer to not tweak with my phones. It may sound irrational, but I'd rather keep my phone stock, even though I feel completely opposite about my PC smile.gif. There was an instructional on how to root and then just update to the leaked official 4.0.4 update for the Nexus, but I decided to be patient. I figure if I'm patient, it will pay off somehow, eh? rolleyes.gif

I installed CM9 Nightly on my GSI and hell, I love it. ICS ftw. It takes up too much battery but I can live with that, it's obviously still beta but I definitely recommend it to people who are too eager to test ICS. Also CM includes some pretty badass features by itself so it's even better.

I'm planning to get a Nexus as my next phone. "Normal" phones (not Nexus) can be a pain in the ass to root... I spend like three full days searching for a workable root method. Nevertheless it pays out but I still prefer just running a couple command lines and get root privileges just like that.

Also, did they just say there is going to be more than one Nexus released at a time?

What phone do you have? The G-note literally takes 10 min to root and you can leave it stock. I have a custom ROM but my friend left his stock yet essentially doubled his battery life.

Some official rules need to be put into effect and enforced by google, as the combination of carrier scewery and manufacturer screwery WILL be the death of android.
