(I've often wondered how newegg comes up w/ their ob prices...)

I feel like the prices are made up by idiots rather than true supply and demand. An openbox 6870 costs less than an openbox 6850 so that makes no sense lolz

Sure would like to snag one of those GTX 580's if only I knew I could sell 2x GTX 460' and 1x GTS 450 to make up the cost of new purchase.

Yep, I got my monitor and my motherboard open box, both for $100 each. Too much stuff to watch it all unless I'm specifically looking for something though.

Mine was just missing the i/o shield, the motherboard itself was still sealed in the antistatic bag and works perfectly biggrin.gif I think missing an i/o shield was worth saving $40 thumb.gif

Short answer yes.

However when you weigh all the reasons for either wanting or not wanting to deal w/the open box deals then the picture changes significantly to either yes yes yes it's worth or or no way in HECK is it worth it.

Any time you are dealing with open box items especially items w/a PCB you always run the risk of buying a product that was not handled properly prior to you owning it. i.e. electro static discharge, Power Spiked or overvolted hardware, drop shock if it was dropped, the list can go on for what could be wrong with an item.

Now when you look at the positives involved. Typically the initial saving from the cost of the open box items should cover any cost to ship the item back to the manufacture for RMA warranty repairs if needed. A lot of times the manufacture will send you brand new in the box replacements or BNIB upgrades as replacements if the item you RMA is no longer available. Still the bottom line is you should know what manufactures are easier to deal with when it comes to RMA. I won't ever buy any EVGA because of how strict they are.

With all that said I'll say one last thing and let you be the judge. You must know how to properly set up any item you intend to purchase and be able to give the item a good burn in period to rule out any problems that may surface. Some problems may and do take a little while to surface i.e.ESD damage or overvoltage from electric power surges.

Good Luck,

N2G

570 $225
Personally, I would rather pay $15 more for a 7850 but if you're a Nvidia fanboy or aren't overclocking and reallllly want the little bit of extra gpu power instead of using less power and creating less, then it's a good deal.
