Can I say neither?

If not, then I would probably go for the corsair. I have patriot, and it overclocks...meeh, ok ish.

Why would you say neither? He needs ram. WHat would you recommend?

Those are the ones I have, they contained TCCD chips. Do note that not all of them do and I have read that some contain mosel or infineon chips and neither of them are very good overclockers...

If your friend has a motherboard capable of reaching high volts (3.6+) you might want to look into these

Well, I was going to suggest other rams than that, but I was wondering if he needed (for some reason or another) to get one of those two.

I have PDP DDR500. Great stuff, can't beat it for the price. Zero problems with it. But I think Corsair is better.

Think of it this way, Patriot is American made lol. Support your country!

Model
Brand CORSAIR
Series XMS
Model TWINX1024R-3200C2PT
Type 184-Pin DDR SDRAM
Tech Spec
Capacity 1GB (2 x 512MB)
Speed DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Cas Latency 2
Timing 2-3-3-6
Voltage 2.6V
Buffered/Registered Registered
Heat Spreader Yes

Registered RAM=No good

And not because they won't work but because they would be slower than unbuffered RAM.

When you're in the market for memory you shouldn't buy a pair of RAM over another because of the brand name attached to them but because of the chips within the memory sticks, if you're looking for DDR RAM you should keep a look out for TCCD or BH-5 sticks and if you're looking into DDR2 you should look into Micron based sticks.

Crucial, Corsair, Patriot, OCZ, GEIL, G.Skill, it's all the same when they have the same chips inside.

That only applies for 512MB modules. I'm not sure what the 1GB ICs are, but mine are UCCC, which I've heard is good.
