Decent motherboard to support FX-6100 HIGH overclocking (4.5Ghz+)? - Page 3

Thanks for the info really helpful for someone with experience with this board.

I won't be going crossfire/SLI, its mainly just a good reliable board that can overclock decently. Considering you could overclock the FX-8120 to that frequency thats really good. The FX-6100 is only 95W TDP, so should be a nice overclock.

I was hesitant because there are mixed reviews about Gigabyte in general, how hot do the VRMs and NB run? My case has plenty of cooling so that isn't a problem.

Also, do you have to download the touch BIOS for the board or does it come with it? I prefer the touch type BIOS.

I will more than likely get some type of VRM cooling for the board anyway. LLC is very useful I find, how well does it work?

Thanks for the info smile.gif

I believe Gigabyte says that the VRM temps can get up past 80c safely. Mine never go far past 60c under load with overclock.

Touch bios can be downloaded directly from the Gigabyte website under "Utility" Downloads tab from specific mobo page.

Reviews will be reviews and some will use them (like Newegg) to complain only sometimes. Take them with a grain of salt.

Gigabyte is a good company and produce quality products. I hear their RMA process is good but I myself have never used it because I have never had any issues with a bad Gigabyte product.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you very much for the information really helpful smile.gif

Also, does anyone know any real safe voltage limits on the FX chips for 24/7 use? Some people say under 1.4, some say don't go above 1.45, want to know what voltage I can feed in without its life degrading rapidly or even frying it? For both CPU VID and Vcore?

As long as temps permit 1.45v for the CPU is the highest I would go on air. CPU NB VID
1.35- 1.375v.

The Northbridge speed should be fine up to 2600MHz and the HT from 2600-2800MHz.

I have an MSI 990fxa-gd80 and there's little to no v-drop and she purrrrs like a kitten! My march build has an Asrock fatality 990fx and it can't touch this msi board! The fatality is a good board though, but the ease of well, everything makes the msi my new favorite lol. no headaches and no explosions lol YET. I have read and researched this board for about 2 months before buying, and I do believe that they have way overbuilt their new boards to prevent the problems of the past. Good luck, and I hope this helps you.!thumb.gif
