[G4TV]Borderlands 2 To Use Steamworks On PC - Page 11

Honestly I struggle to see why people don't see the reason why others have an issue with that. I shouldn't have to put Steam in offline mode every night "just in case".

I don't understand it either. Valve's the gaming golden boy, that you know "saved" pc gaming, so of course people will look the other way. Prime example in the quote below.

PEBKAC.

PEBKAC? Seriously?

Dude, you ever put yourself in someone else's shoes?

The complaint is in that I shouldn't have to prepare for that, because the reality is that you cannot prepare for something you will not know will happen.

Just because something might have worked for you that doesn't mean it works fine and dandy for everyone. Stop trying to push the issue on the user. The systems offline mode should be alot more user friendly, should be alot less prone to technical issues, and you damned well know it.

This is why I stay "prepared"

I click "go to offline mode" and I get the "could not connect to steam network" error.

I agree. if it was this simple, it wouldn't be a problem for me.

Even the 'How To' says you need to have an online connection before using the offline-mode.

He's magical.

Steam is basically the same as Ubisoft always-on DRM, yet the same people that bash Ubisoft for it can't stop praising Steam and how it is the savior of gaming and the only genuine method of getting your game.

Amen. Gaming Golden Boy, do no wrong - until they don't release HL3 in 20 years.

Urgh; your argument was achievements and showing stats/progress across the globe... why is this important to Borderlands 2? My gripe isn't that Steam is bad; in fact it's rather good. I just wish they would fix it so you can start Steam-up in offline mode (not going offline from online which defeats the point a bit.) I also don't see the problem with the game not needing DRM at all besides piracy reasons; even then the 'love-letter' addressed that Borderlands 2 would have offline capabilities (including lan-support,) so I'm really hoping you can just load the game up without having to go through Steam every-time (If purchased/activated through Steam.)

Well, I agree. If they do the same thing that I got done for spore. My spore game is attached to a different account than my main origin account, but it doesn't matter which one I'm signed in under; if I want to launch spore, i just open it without any interaction from origin what-so-ever.

Prolly wont happen with steamworks and BL2, but it's a wish tongue.gif.

At the end of the day, the Devs made the decision that they think being on steam will be a benefit, otherwise they would have gone the conventional route. Enough said.

On another note, I'm pretty sure steam can be run in offline mode pretty easily without going online first. I'm not sure if theres an option of launching in offline through a launch option/command in properties, but if you just disable your internet connection/wireless card etc... and try to run steam, after trying to get online it will ask if you want to run in offline mode.

This is clever of course because this is what would happen if ever steam (server) breaks then you should still be able to play your games offline.

Again, this doesn't work most of the time.

When this happens you get a "could not connect to steam network" error message.

What you wrote is how it's supposed to work, not how it does.

Alright; thanks for the input.
Steam cannot be started when Offline; attempting to do so will cause an error when choosing to connect online or offline without an actual connection. I'll go and say this statement is a fact; as individuals have constantly thrown around tutorials, ways, and even applications that's 'supposed' to make it work but doesn't by the countless of other people and even steam-moderators who would also like Steam to be ran offline without needing to run Steam online first, then switching to offline (again; defeats the point of 'offline.')

Do it yourself; disconnect yourself from the internet without steam running and try to start-it up.
Go to support and look up the, How To on getting offline to work and tell you, 'You need to make sure you're connected online and on Steam, verify the game-files of what you want to play and make sure it's updated, (Save-account login/credentials,) there you go! You can now go offline and disconnect yourself from the internet.'
Not exactly the prepared thing to do other than keep steam and your desktop/laptop running all-day every-day. As I said before; since they promised offline-lan I don't see the game needing Steam to actually play; though it may be sold and even use Steam[works.]

I guess if it doesnt work for you then not much I can say, but thats what happens for me 100% of the time whenever I cant get on-line with steam for whatever reason.

no im not
and yes you are. its the way the world works. theres no point in fighting it and realisticly its not even bad. if you cant get online to get into steam then do something else. its teh way things are going and thats that. I get it that there are issues with starting steam offline but theres a reason you have to log in atleast once. It should be able to allow for you to start up in offline mode as long as you have loggin in once i agree. But as for being forced to run it through steam, it is what it is.
