I guess if it doesnt work for you then not much I can say, but thats what happens for me 100% of the time whenever I cant get on-line with steam for whatever reason.

smile.gif

you've been lucky.

For me it's been:

open steam>error message>click "offline mode" >error message (same) >repeat indefinitely until online again

and yes you are. its the way the world works. theres no point in fighting it and realisticly its not even bad. if you cant get online to get into steam then do something else. its teh way things are going and thats that. I get it that there are issues with starting steam offline but theres a reason you have to log in atleast once. It should be able to allow for you to start up in offline mode as long as you have loggin in once i agree. But as for being forced to run it through steam, it is what it is.

I've already "bent over" in regards to steam, but your reply highlights why we are losing rights errayday.

"theres no point in fighting it and realisticly its not even bad."

meh.

I give no shoots about achievements. They're a gimmick, but not a selling point to a platform(steam). I'd have consumer rights over achievements any day, but because I've got to "bend over" and take it like everyone else, that's not a concern.

heh. bend over..

I already have that. I mean like when my connection has dropped out before I boot my PC up, when I get into windows steam tries to log in, then asks if I want to restart in offline mode, but still tries to log in for some reason and just hangs.

This is one of the errors I've been talking about. If you loose internet frequently, keep steam in offline mode more often.

Maybe always-on DRM wouldn't be such a big deal if people channeled the energy they waste railing against it towards, I don't know, getting a better ISP.

I could go out and pay for the best internet this country, and/or my ISP had to offer. That still doesn't mean it's going ot be a one hundred percent perfect service that isn't prone to fault at some point or another.

Some people don't work jobs that pay tons of money every year. Some people are also restricted to "crappy" ISP's in their location, even if they were to pay top dollar for the best.
