what my point is, you are forced to open steam, launch the game from steam, and have steam running, to play, some people love steam and is okay with it, which is fine, then they can play with steam open.
the problem is, you are forced to use it, there is no choice offered to just install the game and launch the game without being shackled with other programs

Yeah but when you have a very substantial and large amount of people who use Steam 24/7 and have it open all the time anyways, you aren't "forced to open steam'' because steam is already on 85% of the time on most of our computers..Steam is on my computer 99% of the time on my computer, the only reason i turn it off is to use Origin to play BF3 (too much ram usage when using both).

But I do like that all my games are organised in one place. Not really that fussed about BL2 being a steamworks game, alot of PC releases are anyway.
When you login tick the "remember password" box and next time you try going offline mode it won't ask you for a password.

Nope, if you lose internet connection while in online mode, you can't restart into offline mode. Major steam flaw, it requires restarting into offline mode while you still have an internet connection.

Until Steam (Or Origin, etc) all remove any and all major flaws (eg. offline mode, privacy issues, etc) then being forced to use one is pretty crap.

This is fine for me. I automatically log into Steam every time my computer boots up. I prefer all my games in one place. I wish the 6 or so others I have outside of Steam could be properly added to Steam rather than just creating shortcuts.

either way, users should have a choice instead of being shackled with it. like i said, i like steam for what it is, but its the forced dependency on it that makes me cringe. We should have a choice to lauinch the game without steam
now i understand why some people say DRM will only increase piracy

It's just steam though. You make it sound as if they are forcing you to become dependent on heroin and prostitution.

Eddie.

I can't count how many times I wanted to play Rage or Fallout: NV and I couldn't because my internet was down for a time. Having a game rely on another program that in turn relies on the internet is just a pain.
