Cable Sleeving questions!--Help

Thread Starter
Hi there! I've recently discovered Lutro0's sleeving tutorial and I'm quite interested.

1 - On a scale 1-10, how hard is it to individually sleeve cables of my Seasonic x750? Is there any way I can possibly mess up the power supply and/or break it? Lol. That's the last thing I want.
2 - Also, where would be the best place to buy all of the supplies? I want to use paracord for sure, but MDPC and FTW-PC always seem to be out of stock or something else! frown.gif

I want to have a great looking computer and I feel like this will definitely help. Anyone that can give me tips would be great. All "good" answers will get +1 rep! smile.gif Thanks

"Hard " is not really the right word, it is more tedious than anything else. I would not wory about screwing anything up just be careful to put the wires back the way you found them.

I get most my stuff from Danger Den, Performance PCs and Frozen CPU.

1) Since your PSU is fully modular, it would have to rate "easy" when compared to other power supplies. Can you mess it up? Sure. But it would be hard. Use appropriate gauge wire, get all the pins in the right place on the connector, and you can do you own custom length wiring pretty easy.

2) Are you sure you want to use paracord? MDPC is more of a pain to order...but its nice stuff. Just log on to the home page, and note the time that the shop will be open again. Convert the Berlin time to US time in your time zone (i'm 9 hours different here in the CST), and then set your alarm. smile.gif Nils ships pretty fast and has always had stuff in stock for my orders. If you want off-brand paracord or plastic sleeving...just search amazon for cheap stuff.

I always think that wiring/sleeving is what sets beautiful builds apart from mediocre builds. Take your time, have fun, and enjoy the results. Post pics for everyone when you are done!

i bought my paracord from this guy on ebay, got it next day (granted i live 1 state away).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/550-PARACORD-PARACHUTE-CORD-MIL-SPEC-TYPE-III-7-STRAND-10ft-20ft-50ft-100ft-/280826110039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item41628a6057#ht_2243wt_1396

i havent installed it yet so i cant give you any advice beyond that. if youre worried about screwing up the cables or want custom length and dont want to ruin the stockers you can buy new cables for $7 for the 24pin and $4 each for the others (pci/eps/sata/molex) from antronelectronics.com for the seasonic x series PSUs

One of the best places to buy paracord, if you don't want to deal with ftwpc.
With the 10% off coupon that is added automatically it's ~17 +shipping for 250 ft.

Generally you'll need about 200-300 feet to sleeve all the cables individually. This can be calculated pretty easily, just by measuring. I suggest to buy extra, however because sleeving the first time is always a bit messy.

A good tip in to wrap the ends of the connectors with electrical tape (I'm sure scotch tape would work too) so that the connectors don't snag as you pass them through, which is the hardest part about sleeving with paracord.

Good luck!
