[RPS] Opinion: Why The Problem With Diablo Isn’t Diablo - Page 7

Really, there isn't any point answering you as my point has pretty much sailed over your head and you are also contradicting yourself.

Just take this line you posted for instance:
Quote:
100% false. It is completely optional to use the auction houses. More options = better for the consumer.

The whole reason there is no offline mode is apparently to protect the integrity of the monetization/micro-transaction scheme that is the auction house (something I'm sure we'd all love to see take priority in future games).

They validate removing the option to play the game solo-offline like older Diablo games had, so they can make a money making scheme work better (ie without people messing with it), even though making an offline experience that cannot be linked with/has nothing to do with their game servers would prevent that.

More options = better for the consumer.

Am I right?

You'll need to stop arguing with your own sense of morality before we progress.

This game deserves the worst thumb.gif Put on your eye patch.

Yay well the Blizzard circle jerk is really strong.... I bought Stacraft 2 at launch, played the campaign and thought : wow I've just payed 60 Euros and waited 10 years to replay Stacraft 1... So when Blizzard announced always on DRM for Diablo III I didn't even had to think twice ; no buy.

My money went somewhere else...

EDIT: Back up here is the THREAD and we all need to be civilized because if we go flaming Blizzard is going to ignore us. We just need to all talk about the always online DRM as being something in the way rather than something good. I am all up for always online when being on battle.net (as you would have to be), but having a completely separate single player and/or lan without the auction house or anything is integral.

done, did my part

presented few valid points, which are extremely feasible as i always do that with other games, and i even see other people do the same in public as well

Diablo 3 has a pause button. It's called Esc. And it just so happens Esc was the pause button in Diablo 1 & 2. Clearly this article writer is a very smart person.

This is exactly what everyone has implied: non-Battlenet material never being able to be used in Battlenet games. You could have local saves/characters/servers and Battlenet, with no crossovers.

Such differences are only going to become more significant as the only hope for any sort of modding community will be through piracy or EULA//TOS violations.

Those emulated servers never got past running around town and spawning monsters, but not being able to talk to NPC, attack, or DO anything, really.

That was with 6 months of work during the beta, in a non-protected version.

Also, these emulated servers, once somewhat usable, will still have to be hosted by someone, like a MMO private server. It will be quite intense, CPU wise, not like hosting a Counter-Strike match or Borderlands game, you'll need a rig dedicated to running a false Battle.net...then connecting to it, ect, then running the game servers themselves. It's going to be work....

Then, like with MMORPGs, various communities will pop up and people will donate to them, receiving special in-game items and rewards, and the games will all be modded to annoying levels. I love mods, but a game like this isn't designed around the idea of mods, hence, artificially inserting mods is worse than not having them.

Having a single player offline mode would cause more havoc than you understand. For that, they would need to release the Enemy AI, item information & ID's, and all that stuff, and make it available to SP...

Which would make dupers, hackers, botters, ect, have a far easier time than they are now. We'll still have botters, maybe hackers, but no dupers in Diablo III. It's like a MMORPG system...you don't see dupes in WoW or other MMORPGs, unless they are really poorly done F2P ones, like Runescape.

Diablo III is a game designed to be online...as the whole series has been. Removing SP is a natural progression for this series.
