[Engadget] Samsung pushes graphene one step closer to silicon supremecy - Page 3

Who cares if graphene is $1 or $50 a pound when you're only using a nickel worth of it per die? Doubling the cost of one material makes a very minimal impact on the end result's cost. The bulk of IC cost comes not from input material cost but from processing + labor, modified by yield.

Looks like it's always IBM or Samsung doing this kind of great stuff.

The CPU itself in terms of materials costs next to nothing. What you pay when you buy a CPU is FABs and R&D. Even if CPU itself costs x15 more then now it will only be $20-30 more.

Not to mention the fact that so long as only there are only 2 or 3 manufacturers of cpu's, the companies will be able to charge whatever they want for the product. Any cost savings will go straight to corporate profits.
