7ghz with all 8 cores running can be accomplished by almost any idiot with a Bulldozer CPU and a splash of LN2.  Nuke's accomplishment might not be interesting to you, but anyone with benching/sub-zero experience can appreciate how truly amazing Nuke's 8.3ghz sub really is.

And before everyone jumps all over me I know that usability isn't exactly the point of sub-zero benching I just don't see the point if you're not going to leave all the cores running.

Personally, I know where you are coming from. I wouldn't bother unless I was getting performance gain.

BUT :

Dang, this is amazing. It took me about 6 months to get my overclock stable where it is, and to see somebody get it this high within the life of the CPU/MB/Nitrogen is insane. These guys are gods of the computer world! Great accomplishment man, those speeds are CRAZY.

If the chip is still alive, he should do a live show of going for the top spot!

7GHz with all 8 cores is doable with most BD chips subzero. There are a lot of videos of people running Cinebench at 7GHz+ and none of them could hit a frequency this high. I see it as offensive because this is a thread where we celebrate our teammate's accomplishment. Not only did he bring in a lot of points to the team with this submission, but he also hit the second fastest frequency ever!

That said, I'm not going to talk about this anymore... don't want to derail the thread!

Don't attack me for asking this because I'm not being a jerk or putting down anybody's hobbies. I know that people like to compete for the highest scores in benchmarks.. hence why most of this is done.

Is there any other reason why people spend so much time, money, effort, and risk expensive components other than to just say that they did?

Again, don't attack me, I do plenty of things just to say I did.. I'm just wondering if there is some other underlying driving force to do things like gimp an 8120 down to a single module just to hit some world records - when in reality the CPU (at least in this case) isn't really technically any faster than it is stock. I overclock for the purpose of saving money I don't have and ending up with faster components for less money.. but obviously the purpose here is not to be prudent, careful, or to save money - in fact it doesn't even seem about winning in BM scores because I'm not sure what this would score well on aside from a single thread run of Cinebench or something.

I said it twice and I'll say it again - I'm not putting anything or anyone down or trying to belittle a pretty interesting hobby that we all share, on some level.. just wondering why you do it to such extremes, when these sort of clocks are completely unusable from any sort of workload standpoint, right?

Anyway, mother of god @ 8+GHz
