Hello everyone. I just recently joined so I am looking for some help. I will be doing a build soon here and I need to decide between a 2500k or the 3570k. I will be using this for gaming and would like to OC. This CPU will be running on a asrock z77 fatality mobo and will be cooled by an h60.

My second question is what do you think I can oc each CPU at safely using the h60? Also will I need to get an upgrade on my PSU from my corsair cx600? Temps And power consumption aren't really an issue for me. I just would like to know what is better for gaming and what would run faster because I know the IBs have faster core clocks but from what I have read I don't think I can get the IB past 4.5 unlike the SB.

Thanks in advanced.

If you don't currently own a SB chip, then I would go with an IB. Clock for clock the IB chip will be faster and since you are already running a Z77 board I would go ahead and pair it up with a nice 3570k. Every chip is different, but 4.4-4.5GHz with the 3570k should be reasonable and to be honest, is probably what you would see with a 2500k as well. At those speeds you'll be able to run any game you want provided you have the card to back it up.

I have a 2500k @ 5GHz and a 3770k @ 4.7GHz...both chips are undeniably fast and laugh at anything I throw at them. I only use custom water setups though but anything around or at 4.5GHz is more than fast enough with these chips.

Yeah that is what I have heard. I don't actually have the z77 in my pc right now that is just the board I bought for my neww rig. I am upgrading from some old i5 I don't even know the name of. Has the 1156 socket and I just needed a new mobo. I'm currently running a gtx 550 ti which I'm thinking of upgrading to maybe a 680. You think the 680 would bottleneck on the 3570k?

LOL. a GTX 680 would be perfect with a 3570k if overclocked. The H60 should do just fine, really. My friend has a 2500k @ 5Ghz on an H60, and he doesn't go over 72C, which is good.

I personally think you should go with an i5 3570K
if you go with the Ivy Bridge i5 3570K, here is a guide to help you overclock it - http://www.overclock.net/t/1247413/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-with-ln2-guide-at-the-end

Yea, if your coming into the market without a SB then defiantly go IB. If you already had a 2500k I wouldn't suggest upgrading to a IB but since your buying a new cpu anyways it is defiantly the way to go. But I don't think an i5 is the way to go...

I don't think that's a good idea. There isn't a lot you can do to "future proof" your pc these days but sticking with a i7 over a i5 for hyper-threading is one of the few things I would consider to be crucial.

i have a 3570k. At 4.6ghz @ 1.28v with an H80, i peak at ~75C running Prime 95 ~68C 24/7 folding. So, and H60 is going to be pushing at @ the same overclock.

By pushing do you mean not enough?
