AMD Opteron 165 OCing problems.

Thread Starter
This is my second Opteron 165. I have it set up with a brand new board, DFI LanParty Ultra-D.

Ram: OCZ 2GB (1GB x 2) Platnium. 2-3-2-5

My Opty stepping is CCBWE 0551

I know it's not the best... but on stock volate, I can overclock about 20mhz. Seriously.

My old opty hit 2.5ghz, Prime and memtest stable.

I hit 2.3 with bumped up volates, and majorly underclocked ram, but it wasn't stable. Anywhere from inbetween and Prime95 or memtest failed.

I think the culprit is my ram. On the gold connectors, some are slightly tarnished. Almost corroded. It's still under warrenty... I was thinking of returning them.

Anyone else with a DFI board and an opty if you mind giving me your exact setting I'll try them and post back with my results.

The volate is listed weird in the bios, but I changed one, and it read it at 1.45ish. So... yeah.

change the cpu voltage to 1.45 and the voltage % to "auto" I forget what it's called, but leave it at auto.

Also, put the ram on a 100 divider with 2.5-4-3-6 timings, just to keep it outta the way completely.

Run MemTest86 on your memory and see if you get errors at stock settings. Try running at 2T if you have the command rate set to 1T. Those are some aggresive timings also for a 2/1GB kit, try 3-3-3-8 and see if you gain any stability.

I will try thost settings tommorow, im gonna memtest overnight on stock speeds.

The ram is, an was at 1T the whole time

On my epox board, I had the ram at the rec speed of 2.3.5.3, and 1T, and I think 180mhz.

Worked fine at 2.5ghz.

I think some moisture got on my ram, and that could be the problem. I will try the eraser trick tommorow also.

Thanks.

#1: Use the orange slots for dual channel, not yellow ones.
#2: Verify bios edition your using. My UltraD would need a flashed bios to run dual core.
#3: Use memtest with only one stick at a time.
#4: Re-verify all 4 power connectors are snug on your mobo.
