4.8ghz i5 2500k in AsRock Z68 Ext3/Gen3 struggles to boot on cold start.

so the first power on or maybe power on after a few hours my pc turns on and then turns off then turns on and will either boot to windows or it will turn off again and the back on and into windows. It will attempt to boot 2-4 times before it boots to windows. If i turn the computer off and then turn it back on again with in seconds it's fine. The OC at 4.8ghz is stable but not sure why i have this hiccup in the beginning.

I have the same problem with mine too. what RAM do you have? Mine boots perfectly fine at 4.5
post #4 of 22
mine does that too, at 4.6ghz on msi p67 gd80 though. it struggles to start sometimes, but never crashes once it gets going. unfortunately i have no clue why, but at least ur not alone and its probably not your motherboard.

I have the same problem with mine, although its a i7-2600k on GB p67a-ud4-b3. It will do the same at 4.5 also though, but always boots up after a couple of turn on/turn offs. Half the time when I was at 4.8 it would do as you said yours does, other times it would reset everything and tell me there was a "stability problem with the overclock" and go back to the default settings, even though it's been stable through all regular tests (prime95, IBT, ebt...).

mine does this too,my 2600k is @ 4.6,when its overclocked if i leave any voltages on auto it will do this as its trying to see what voltages it should use,if i dont use auto voltages, and input them manually in the bios,it boots up fine. 2cents.gif

yeah mine boots and works fine at 4.6ghz but at 4.7 or 4.8 it does this. it will generally boot by the 3 attempt but if it can't if resets bios so it can boot up. Weird! I would love to figure out why it does this though so i can fix it. lol

just a bump to see if anyone else knows how to fix this.

I've gotten mine to boot up now at 4.701mhz without problems. 46 multiplier at 102.2 bclk. My chip can go a lot higher but i need to increase the multipier now rather then base clock. if i go straight from the 47 or above multipliers then it doesn't always want to boot.

Well not sure what i've changed LOL but i reset the bios defaults and reset my overclock and i'm booting fine at 4.9ghz. Only hitting 72 degrees Celcius at load in Prime95 blend tests. Runing a 48 mutiplier and 102.1 BLCK at 1.40v on a Hyper 212+ Push/Pull thumb.gif Temps don't ever get above 62 degrees while playing BF3. I had it stable at 5.0ghz with temps at 75 degrees at load but didn't want to up the voltage any more. I'm very happy with my new i5.
