Glad you figured out or atleast tinkered enough to fix your problem. 4.9 stable is great, gonna be 24/7? I was wondering, what is your cooling setup?

yeah that is my 24/7. All i'm running is a Hyper 212+ Push/Pull on the CPU and a HAF932 Advance Full Tower case with stock fans.

Awesome. I'm hoping my H70 can hold up when pushing pass 4.8ghz if I have ever there (sitting 4.7 now), if my tiny FX4100 can handle it.

If others are having this problem with an ASRock mobo, try disabling CPU PLL overvoltage. It seems to cause boot/POST loop with some bios releases. Also, check for the latest bios.

I tried that. Thank you for the idea. I'm jumped the gun. I'm able now to boot at 4.7ghz with a 46 multiplier and a 102.2 BCLK all the time but anything higher then 4.7ghz is a no go. Well it will boot but after a few atempts. Like turn on and turn off a couple of times. Which is super annoying especially when i know i can get it to 5.0ghz no problem but it bothers me with booting up. I don't know why it is doing that. The only bios update is for Ivy Bridge so i don't think i need to do that. Any other ideas?

Is that with or without CPU PLL Overvoltage enabled?

Also, drop your BLCK back to 100 as it too can cause POST/boot loops.

You have a "K" processor and there really is no need to increase BCLK when you overclock unless you are trying to squeeze every last bit of OC out of your CPU for a suicide run or benchmark day. For general daily use, leave the BCLK at 100 and just go as high as you can with the multiplier and be happy with the result.

102.2 x 46 = 4701.2Mhz
100 x 47 = 4700Mhz

Yor really will never notice any extra performance in that 1.2 Mhz extra you gained by increasing the BCLK wink.gif

I had the POST/boot loop with earlier bios and CPU PLL Overvoltage enabled when trying to reach 5ghz. I had to settle for 4.8Ghz.

I then started trying the "beta" bios' that ASRock were releasing for Ivy Bridge, and even though I had an SB, the "beta" bios' removed the POST/boot loop for me.

After all the testing and multiple "beta" bios releases, ASRock has released the stable bios that was based on those beta bios. Bios 2.10 is BIG step forward for the ASRock Z68 mobos. It not only adds Ivy Bridge support, but it fixes almost all of the bugs that were present in the older bios releases - including fixing that POST/boot loop.

I now use bios 2.10 in my ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3, and it has allowed me to reach a higher overclock at lower vcore and runs more stable then it has run with previous bios releases. And I don't have the POST/boot loop with it.

Okay thank you much! I will try the 2.1 Bios when i get home and report back! Thanks for going the extra mile.

no go. I updated to bios 2.1 and still doesn't want to boot up most of the time. I've got it working fine at 4.7 so i'll just leave it there. not sure what is going wrong. once booted up it's totally fine at 4.9ghz but the boot issue bugs me.

Did you drop BLCK back to 100? Also worth checking what SATA ports your HDD is connected to. Try not to use the "extra" SATA3 ports added by the Marvell chipset. Use the Intel SATA3 ports. They'll be listed in your manual.

Yes base clock was set back to 100. It actually had a hard time this morning at 4.6ghz. Something is wrong. I will sometime boot up after like 2 tries.....(sometimes) but normally at anything over 4.6ghz it will try and boot three times with black screen the entire time and it will keep restarting itself until the 3rd failed boot and then it will reset the chip to stock to boot. I've tried turning PLL overvoltage on and off. I upgraded the bios to 2.1. I've tried speed step on and off. More voltage less voltage. I've tried to turn c1,c2,c6 off and on. I've tried turning the core power thing to 230 and above not sure what else. The chip is super stable at super high clocks once in windows but getting it to boot is like 1 out of 10 tried at anything above like 4.5ghz from a cold first time boot. Once it has been running i have better odds of getting it to run at a higher clock.

I will check sata ports but my ssd is hooked up to sata6 ports and i have a hdd hooked up to a sata3 so i will check which on it is on. I believe the ssd is one sata 1 and hdd is on sata 4. i'll look at which are the marvell
