Need to upgrade Folding Rig --Bulldozer or Phenom II x6? (update) - Page 4

there is a pretty high success rate for unlocking the 960t...you shouldn't have a problem hitting 4ghz with your mb with good cooling...i see you have an h-80, should do the job as long as it's getting good cool air intake also a push/pull fan setup may give a little extra room....you will also be able to get better performance from your ram ( thubans have a better imc ) thumb.gif

I would not be able to exchange it right away. If they allowed an exchange. I am thinking a 960t would be anything from a rebranded 1075t to a rebranded 1100t. I make that assumption since the frequency starts at 3000MHz. Am I right from my conclusion? if so and the cores unlock I would be about in the position I want to be since I am looking at 1090t to 1100t. And if unlockable to 6 cores would it be reasonable for me to oc all cores to atleast 4GHz?

with your V? yes.

This is all good news. I knew there was a reason I saved up for this mb and cooler. I was hoping for a better AMD cpu solution for folding but I guess I will have to wait for a while on that one. Perhaps when I am ready, at another day in the future, I will have to break down and accept the fact that intel is the way to go. Who knows? By that time maybe AMD will surprise everyone but that might be a while.

A few more questions on the 960t. With it rated at 95w does this give more headway for ocing keeping it cooler or does it allow very much voltage? Does it need very much voltage to oc? Does this have L3 cache or if not does it affect folding in any way?

when you unlock the extra cores it jumps to 125w( actually i think those jump to like 145w)...to get over 4ghz it gets real power hungry and hot...the cooler you can keep it the higher it will clock with least amount of voltage...yes it has L3

the 960T is the Thuban with 2 cores turn off most ppl can get 4.0 out of it on 4 cores at 1.35 volts with the 6 cores on you will need 1.45 volts for 4.0

Unlocked 960T pulls 177w er..@ 4+ Ghz redface.gif ..puts out a fair amount of heat,too.
They do run cool..as a quad..max core temps are 34c for me..YMMV.
very nice CPUs..
I think most are 1090-1100Ts with maybe thought defective core(s)
or cores disabled to make quota.
I know I got a good one! thumb.gif
Good Luck..and I hope you get a good chip!
edit:I found out it pulls 189 when highly OCd :eek.gif: :lachen.gif: (6 cores of fury) kungfu.gif

Now that is interesting. You are speaking of the ASU surplus I just found out about, right? In Tempe, AZ? Or am I on a different page completely?

Oh Australia. I thought you were talking Arizona State Univeristy when you said ASU. I can't order online unfortunately. But thanks for the tip. I will keep it in mind for the next time.
