Gigabyte G1. Sniper 5/5M/3/M3 Owners Thread/Club - Page 106

Hey all,

I got a question. I recently bought the G1 Sniper 3 and and for the most part I've been really happy with it. However, with that being said, I've been noticing that the monitor remains black and doesn't display the splash screen most of the time. The weird thing is that I can still access the BIOS when it's black. I've tried messing with init Display and resetting the CMOS but that didn't change anything.

Also unfortunately, I've been getting a much higher temperature (roughly 20 degrees) on my CPU than my previous motherboard (P67-UD4-B3). I'm currently getting some new fans so I'm going to try resetting the CPU cooler (Hydro H80i) and see if that makes any difference once it arrives. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My rig:

i7 2600K @3.4 Ghz
Gigabyte Z77 G1 Sniper 3
GTX 680 4GB SLI
Mushkin RAM 8GB
1200W Corsair AX1200 PSU

Nice rig. I've notice that my temps read funny on my board too. I don't know which temp monitoring program is right because they're all different. Not sure if it's a bad module or maybe a bad bios update.

Depends on the chip.

The M3 benched better than the full EATX board. IT also depends on the silicone lottery.

I've been using core temp to monitor my temp and clock...I've been noticing that it won't ever go above 3.5 Ghz (100% load with Prime 95) no matter what I set my clock speed to :S

As said before it depends on a the chip. I can do 5.2 + with the MB but it has more to do with the chip. Why get a Z77 MB with a SB chip ? A P67 chipset would cost less and would do the same job. Socket 1155 is at the end of its road . If you own the i5 2500k get a P67 MB if not then get an IB and a Z77. The main thing ( well to me ) of the Z77 is Pcie 3 but for that you need an IB chip to have the ability to run Pcie 3 x 16 on two cards. As said above unless you have a IB chip and want to Sli or Crossfire you are going to pay for things you can't use. But hey this is OCN...
