I am planning on getting this board - and creating a whole build around it, but I have a few questions.

1) I use a rat 7 and the Black Mamba - both USB gaming gear, and I understand that USB based keyboards and mice do not work with the bios, hence no OC? Is that true? What kind of mouse and keyboard would I need to use that works with the Bios?

2) When I buy this new, will I need to flash to the latest bios? Or has gigabyte taken the time to make sure the boards are all updated now?

3) How cool does the chipset on the board stay? Is there a water cooling solution for the motherboard?

4) Any water-cooling tips? I was thinking about running a dual loop - one for the CPU and Ram, and one for the dual 7970's that I will be running in the system.

5) Are there any other quirks or problems that I'd want to know about before I buy this board?

Thanks for answering these questions for the 17th time, I'm sure!

why couldn't you OC? I am not sure on those particular keyboard and mouse combinations, I know many logitec and corsair keyboards do not work correctly, but your might. both those companies use the same people to make their keyboard firmware.

IMO just any crap keyboard will work fine, like the most basic will work best. However the guys who keyboard don't work well in BIOS, they work fine in windows so you would just need to swap keyboard for one or two times to set your OC and then use your other keyboard. you don't really need a mouse to do anything in the BIOS, but yea i don't think there are that many issues with mice.

They will make sure the majority are updated, however updating is fairly simple. When you get your board do not update the BIOS unless you have issues.

THere is no waterblock, there is also no reason to EVER cool any good Z77 board. unless the VRM is total crap then there is no need, it wont affect performance at all. The heatsink will stay warm around the PCH and wont get hot around the VRM really. Do not worry about it. The PCH for Z77 runs a bit hot like 60-70C, but nothing to worry about or hurt performance.

For the watercooling do everything outside the case first, i think good neon green water dye with UV lights would look cool. I have been pushing GB to use UV slots, but they haven't yet.

I think you will be fine, if you have any issues please let us know. If you have issues then most likely a BIOS update will solve. it.

I am using v1.61 already. Can someone else with the M3 please confirm they are able to monitor the vcore with CPU-Z?

I am using Microsoft Wireless Arc keyboard and an old Logitech MX mouse, both of which require separate USB dongles, and both work fine in version F7 of the M3's BIOS. What does it have to do with the OC, btw?

Flashing a BIOS is an easy and pain-free process. I had to flash mine and you will probably have to as well. Nothing to be worried about.

Can't comment on the watercooling, but I have achieved a stable, mild OC on both the CPU and the GPU in a _very small_ mATX case (Fractal Design Core 1000) without any issues whatsoever.

See my vcore issue above. Apart from Gigabyte's ET6, I haven't found anything else to reliably monitor the vcore in Windows with.

Back to the good old Sniper 3 after my Big Bang X79 turned out to be a Big Bust with disappearing PCI-E slots.

I have my four 7970 Lightnings running on the Sniper 3 with my 5x1 120Hz display setup and getting max GPu utilization. So quad-8x PCI-E 3.0 is working really well. The F5 BIOS is also nice and stable. thumb.gif
