first thing I did was load defaults. I figure I have to enable the PCIE 1x in the BIOS but I've been up and down in there with nothing obvious I've even consulted the manual.

Anyone have any advice?

Which slots do you have your 670s in?

1 and 5

I've tired the Xonar in both slots 3 and 7, everything POSTs fine but the video cards I have are the Gigabyte 670's and the fans actually take up more than 2 slots, more like 2.25 slots so the back of the Xonar rubs on the middle fan on the 670, makes a hell of a noise, but POSTs.

I've also removed the 2nd video card and tired the Xonar in slot 5, POSTs just fine. Unfortunately I don't have any other PCIE devices here to try in slot 4.

Green slot #1 and #3? That's what GB recommends.

Try moving the 2nd card to the 4th green slot and see if you can boot thumb.gif

2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x16 (PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2)
* For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots.
2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x8 (PCIEX8_1, PCIEX8_2)
* The PCIEX8_1 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16_1 slot and the PCIEX8_2 slot with PCIEX16_2. The PCIEX16_1/PCIEX16_2 slot will operate at up to x8 mode when the PCIEX8_1/PCIEX8_2 is populated.
(The PCI Express x16 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
* PCIE Gen.3 is dependent on CPU and expansion card compatibility.
2 x PCI Express x1 slots
(The PCI Express x1 slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
1 x PCI slot

Yup that's what I meant by slots 1 and 5.

I'll give it a try.

Yup, it POSTs and I can see both cards in Windows. But I dont't have an SLI bridge that long and the bottom card gets zero air as it almost sits on my PSU.

I doubt it, but the 4-way bridge might help.I have a few 140mm length cables that might help you. These are extreme hard to find but I managed to get ahold of a few because I needed this length.

As far as the gpu, 8x will have little performance impact, though you said its not gonna get enough cooling frown.gif

Yeah I tired the 4-way bridge and I had a pop up up on Windows boot saying that there was no SLI bridge installed. Yeah heat would be a problem if I left the card there. I wish i didn't leave the PCIE wireless card (that comes with the board) at work as I have the next 3 days off frown.gif
