Phase change unloaded test - Page 2

Thread Starter
Ordered items today to build a dummy load for the second evaporator if not being used. Going to build a couple of them,

2in x 2in x 1/2in copper block
120vac, 1/4in dia , 1/1/2in long, 100w cartridge heater
bimetallic thermostat

I am also going to monitor the temperatures of the block and the loaded cpu with a Honeywell 3000 UDC Temperature Controller. I do a lot of instrumentation work and just happen to have this lying around at work.
When I place systems under PLC control, all the discrete temperature controllers are removed.

This controller will also be used as a heat regulator to the dummy block. I know I do not really need the bimetallic thermostat since I am using a controller but extra protection is never bad.

I may go as far as installing the Honeywell controller in my bench station and attach the 3 temperature monitoring connections to a small type K thermocouple junction box, This way, I can use the honeywell to
monitor my temperatures no matter if I am on Air/Phase/Dice etc. It should be very accurate at all cooling temperatures.

This would help keep my benching area very tidy! biggrin.gif

A $1 bimetal will save an expensive toy.

Or as they say in electronics, a $5000 circuit will ALWAYS protect a $0.30 fuse if you don't use one. rolleyes.gif
