Slight leakage in MCP655 pump?

Thread Starter
For a few months now i have noticed a very slight leak near the output of the pump. Only a few drops of water are evident and it seems slow enough of a leak that it evaporates before it can drip.

I tightened the clamp a few times but i'm afraid of making it too tight and cracking the plastic pump fitting.

I also suspect that air can enter the loop through here causing bubbles to form in the rest of the system. Any ideas of how to seal this connection?

As long as you are using the correct tubing size for the pump's barb (I believe 1/2" for the mcp655?), along with clamps, you should be fine. If you are still getting leakage, you could always do what I do, and use 7/16" tubing on the 1/2" barbs, which creates a much tighter fit. I have never had a leak this way, even without clamps!

Hope I could be of help, good luck! biggrin.gif

I normally tell callers never to use metal clamps with plastic fittings. In the case of the noryl top of the 655, you can use them. Its quite thick.
If it is leaking I'd cut off an inch of the current tubing, after you drain obviously, reseat the tube on the inlet and re-clamp it to the max if it is a plastic clamp.
If it is metal just make sure it is tight, but not digging into your plastic tube.

I buy my water stuff from you guys, actually thumb.gif

Great suggestion.

However, how do you feel about those third-party "tops" for the pump?

Something like this?: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/bid5modtop.html

I heard they void warranty but i would also like an angled, metal output barb compared to the straight, plastic one that is standard.

I've always went with this offering from performance:

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_201&products_id=33678

If I'm going to use compression to guarantee the rest of my stuff why skimp on the pump? Never had a problem.

I purchased one of these because the acetal tops are strong dense material which not only give you more options but also quiet the pump a little bit, if you are one that likes to dress out your pump I recommend one of these.

I'll second the recommendation to get a replacement top for your D5. Made everything a lot easier, both the Bitspower and EK tops are good options.

I heard they void warranty but i would also like an angled, metal output barb compared to the straight, plastic one that is standard.

From the Swiftech site:

Important warranty information: Users are reminded that disassembling their pump for any reason, including for the purpose of upgrading the housing, automatically voids the pump warranty.

So yes, anything that one does to the pump will void it. Swiftech's warranty is a two year.

Like our Delta fans, if it is a custom pump that we create by either modding the top by drilling and tapping or replacing it altogether, we offer a one year warranty on it.
The Laing D5s are very reliable. If it lasts the first week it will likely last you five years.

If you need a good gear clamp for tubing use Fuel injection gear clamps from your local auto supplier. They have rolled edges and don`t dig into the tubing. smile.gif
