560ti 2gb, 560ti 448cuda, or 570 2.5gb? - Page 3

Id even be against sli 570s for the same reason, im sure you can get a 580 for the price of the 2.5gb 570.
seriously id say grab a 1.5 gb 580 for a few extra quid, you know you can sli down the road for cheap and not be F***** over by running out of vram and having heaps of power left. - this happened to me with my 2 x 460s - loads of power - totally useless in crysis 2 and BF3. im much happier with my 480 which can actually run the full settings with a slight fps hit.......
its definitely worth spending a few extra quid now to make savings down the road. Id even say, push the boat out now and grab a 670 if you have the money, your only gona end up spending the same amount when future purchase comes into it, and then youl have 2gb of vram, and no sli hasstle, and much less power consumption

Thank you for the tips. Having a 3 yr old daughter I raise alone doesn't allow me to just spend willfully like I used to but I will definitely look at some high end cards and spurge if I am able too.

I am in the same position, but I will doing a whole new build from scratch (excluding the HDD and case).

I am not sure which card to get. HD 6950, GTX 560ti 2GB and the HD 7850 comes to mind. I am not sure which to get. Do we know when the GTX 660 ti are coming? I will be building a computer by the end of june/beginning of july.

no probs................well thats gota be fun lol, im sure you hardly get a minuite. my best mate has 2 now and they have all his stuff wrecked!

but yea, 1 x gtx 580 now, then another later, or if you can afford it id just get a 670 now. as much as it seems the expensive route, its actually gona prove to be the best value because you will end up selling the 580 for one down the road , or doubling up on 580s. which then has all the sli hasstle - noise, power , etc etc...........ill never get another 480 due to its power. heat, noise etc so ill be using this untill im not getting at least 45 fps in my fav games - then it will be onto a 670 or the big kepler, whatever is the best value at the time etc.................never going sli again its a nightmare unless you have the spacing + patience for driver releases that support new releases etc..........

Oh yeah it is fun, she was trying to do a "job" on my pc this morning with a screwdriver, but luckily i had some scrab parts earlier she was happy enough with.

I just went Nvidia with this 550ti (my brother has a 450) but before that I was an AMD man, only xfired with x1650s years and years ago though. I guess I just gotta remember to take it one step at a time no matter what route I choose.

I decided to go nvidia after seeing that 2 460s where better than 2 5850s, so sold my prized 5850 to said mate, and got 2 460s. They where awesome untill 1GB of vram became an issue, I also much prefer nvidia now, everything just seems better, more quality, great support, nice driver graphics options and such.

Well lets work this out using current Amazon pricing (£) but the exact price doesn`t matter its just for value comparision:

gtx 560ti 2GB £220 x 2 - £440
gtx 570 2.5GB £270 x 2 - £540 (too much usable vram)
gtx 580 1.5GB £300 x 2 - £600 (1.5 gb of vram is cutting it thin here but never the less still, just about ok)
gtx 580 3GB £360 x 2 - £720 (way to0 much vram)

Now.........obviously prices will come down for adding the second card in a few months......but so will the price of the better cards so lets forget about that for the minute.

Now Brettjv had a post up there which showed basically that overclocked (800mhz) gtx 470s in Sli are comparable to a 670 , and not far off 2 x 570s for that matter - BUT USE TWICE THE POWER. 750 odd watts - which is huge in my opinion.

they are more powerfull than the 560 ti , and are probably cheaper. but forget about them.

ok ive just found a 670 for £320 pre -order..............all the rest are just over £400 up to £440

So.............for roughly the same price as 2 x 560ti your getting more performance and great power consumption, low noise and no issues that come with sli. and a gpu thats gona last for ages, well into the next gen

The other options are a bad idea at the moment basically and not worth the extra money. its just the best value. So instead of saying - oh but i can get one 560 now then add another when i have the money - trust me, keep saving and get the 670.

edit: im kinda runing away on this here disregarding your budget but trust me you will end up parting with the equivalent of £400, whether its now or later........but value wise 670 > 560/570/580 even sli, getting rid of 2 cards is a pain in the ass too

You may be happy with 1 580 tho, its just that the 670 isnt far off twice as powerfull for 25% more cash

Thats some pretty good insight as well. A new card isn't high priority on my list since I need a few new parts and my 550 is fairly new, so waiting for the 670 or price drops for other cards won't be hard and I should be able to just put away slowly to make sure I get a card that will last until the next gen.
