This is really bugging me now. I just did this once and it got a proper ip address (192.168.1.xx) so I got into the config page in my browser, set it up, and rebooted. Now it gets the err eth0 timed out, and gives a random "I can't find a network" IP address (169.254.xxx.xxx) and it has no network access.

It does this even if I completely remove the VM, and download the Linux image again. Still nothing. I broked it sozo.gif HELP!

It's bugging me that it seems to somehow be remembering my config, even when I've deleted the VM, and the image, and started all over again, it still seems to want to auto-download the fah core, which it did not do the very first time I ran it (and successfully obtained an IP address) sozo.gif

Well I rebooted (my actual system), restarted the VM, managed to obtain an IP address, set it up with a STATIC IP address, and it appears to be working wheee.gif

Currently ploughing through my first 6903 eek.gif

Man alive this is awesome. One difference, I use Realtemp to log my temps to Dropbox, so I can see them when I'm out. Folding native Win7 used to show 100% CPU usage, now with the VM it's showing 99.2% thinking.gif

Welcome to vbox, this is why folding on vmware is recommended if you have 8 cores or less.

I thought it might be due to my RAM speed (1866). I'm still getting 124k which isn't to be sniffed at, and my rig actually runs a tiny bit cooler on bigadv wth.gif

Might sound like a silly question, but how responsive is the 3930K still going to be for day to day tasks while this is running?

I set the VirtualBox process priority to low and it is very responsive. Not enough to play a game or watch a video, but certainly enough to surf the web, post and edit documents.

Yeah, bigadv will stress your Ram more than your CPU, SMP is the other way around.

Pretty responsive. I work from home on my 3930k and have no issues with it whatsoever. Just make sure you put the priority on low in the taskmgr. Heck I even game while folding on it just fine.

would this process be beneficial for a 3770k as well? been on 8042's whole cc, and averaging maybe 25-30k ppd smp with v7

Depends on your OC. On ivy i7 i think you would need to be around 4.3 ghz.

From what I've learned about folding in the last week, folding under linux appears to get better PPD across the board. The monster PPD is only to be had by running bigadv units. On a quad-core with hyperthreading, that means a corehack in linux to fool it into thinking it has 12 cores. Also, if you can't fold 24/7 bigadv is out of the question, as those units take days to complete.

When your next WU finishes try it out and see. Only takes 10 minutes tops.

And what Jedi said !!! Just noticed your sig says stock. thumb.gif
