Good, ok don't sweat the boxes that won't change (grayed out), just do this:

Kernel: check Sandy Bridge
Packet Size: check Big
Reboot on Submit: check

scroll down and hit submit, the VM will reboot

Click submit and the image will reboot itself.
Once it's rebooted at the linux prompt type this:
nohup ./fah6 -verbosity 9 -bigadv -smp 12 &
Note above is for 3930K only, for I7 quads use:
nohup ./fah6 -verbosity 9 -bigadv -smp 8 &
optionally, if you want to watch what it's doing:
tail -f nohup.out
Now to monitor with HFM.NET you can map a network drive to the IP of the vbox instance I.E. \\192.168.1.110\fah, then when you add a client to HFM.NET simply point it at that drive.
EDIT: 3GB is fine for the Virtual Machine.

So at this point all I do is fill in the

User name , team number and passkey  ?   you have the image all grey..it is hard to understand what  I am meant to fill in  ( reboot on Submit, is there a tick in that or not)

Mine has a blue tick, you seem to have a little white dot...not very clear at all

I guess I would have to bridge it to my wifi card, as it will not get in internet connection from my RJ45

User name, team number and passkey, yes.

then:

Kernel: check Sandy Bridge
Packet Size: check Big
Reboot on Submit: check

Click submit VM will reboot

I'll update the OP to make that clearer.
