OP updated, two major settings for the VM need to be changed from default:

In System->Processor : processors defaults to 1, set to 12 for SB-E

In Network->Adapter 1 : "Attached to" defaults to NAT, switch to Bridged.

Yep it is pulling down a bigadv unit right now, either 6903 or 6904 due to the expected size.

Shut it down and change it please.

When I used NAT I was able to download work from Standford but NOT upload it !!! I did a few WUs that way before I realized I needed bridged. That sucked.

Hopefully this is now right, also does this now mean no gaming for the next 4 to 5 days...can this be paused/shut down restarted ?

 

How long does it normally be before it receives the payload and gets going, 4Mb/s download

The first thing to do now is to set the process priority in windows for the VirtualBox.exe process to low. That will make your system usable for web browsing, document editing stuff like that.

The process can be stopped and restarted, provided it's done gracefully. In otherwords, if you absolutely must stop folding, you go to Machine->ACPI Shutdown. This will stop the fah6 process and it will save where it is so that when you restart it it will resume.

Also, you could simply Machine->Pause if you need all your cores for a short time.

coming up on 96 hours to the end of the competition, as much folding as you can do on that 3930K will be appreciated. thumb.gif

I have a nice quad core laptop for everything else, main pc can just crunch away, I was more or less just thinking about a few games of BF3 here and there.

 

15 minutes later and still receiving payload, normal ?

 

The network indicator on the VB is flashing green and red, is that normal ?
