Asus 670 DirectCU II TOP - Page 116

I was passing heaven bench at 1323, but I'm still trying to find a stable spot for a 4-hour heaven run. I'm down under 1300 all the way down at 1295 currently and still not stable. Somewhat disappointing, but in the grand scheme of things, its still an amazing card (that is indefinitely stable at a stock clock of 1254), and it is clobbering anything I throw at it at 1080p. Couldn't be happier.

Looped heaven maxed for 30 minutes and I was hitting clocks of 1267 with a temp of 72C and fan speeds at 94%. I guess it has to be my case, its a 600T but I haven't added any extra fans to it. This is a TOP card at stock speeds. There seemed to be no problem at that temp, but its still a high temp...thoughts?

Hmm...that seems a little high. You could always try removing the heatsink and re-applying the thermal paste on the GPU die. I'm not sure if this would void any warranty, but check to be sure.
How's the air circulation in your case? Maybe try adding a case fan, or ramping up the speed of your case fans. At worst, you could also remove the side panel of your case.
And of course, check for any dust buildup within your case.

I kinda noticed that comparing the dcii670 (at 1100mhz) to the FTW (1215mhz) I bought later, temps where about 2c within eachother, only advantage was the dcii was more silent, it could be that this smaller die gpu has a harder time getting rid of heat like ivy did with intel compared to sandy bridge. Im going to be putting a corsair h70 on my 670 soon, I have been lazy, wishing for quick disconnects since im doing this in an matx case.

Anyone know max official safe temps? I assume around 90c?

edit:
My ambient is in the 78-80F range and both cards for me pushed the 68-72c range gaming. Asus at 75% ftw 70%

Also, just as a reference point, my GTX 670 TOP doesn't exceed 65C at 80% fan speed under full load at 1245 MHz. And this is at an room temp of at least 75F or so (haven't turned on AC yet).

One think I might suggest is setting your top fan(s) to intake. That dropped my temps a couple C.

Not sure what the max tjunction for the gk104 is. However, you don't ever want a CPU or GPU to reach 90C+. The GTX 670 TOP will start to throttle at around 71C, so it is best to keep your max temps under 70C.
Also, I highly doubt that the gk104 has ivy bridge's serious heat issues. There is less transistor density when comparing the two processes (28nm for gk104, 22nm for ivy bridge). Ivy Bridge also has the integrated heat spreader, which in effect is another layer of material that heat must pass through (along with a thermal paste of unknown effectiveness).

You guys just have crappy airflow. My dcii at 1280 tops out and 58c in bf3. Did some extended benching tonight to test my oc and the Max it hit in afterburner was 62c.

Lol you know I do in the tj08-e thumb.gif but its still interesting how they both cooled very similar, that said my ftw would cool better in a case like yours. I love my lil tj08-e but need more airflow to the gpu

I agree with that but compared fermi (40nm?) to the 28nm for the gk104 might have seen some issues with heat, could be why they have voltage locked too.
