Asus 670 DirectCU II TOP - Page 153

I can't believe my luck.
I rma'd my card four hours ago, only to just find out about the new bios.

The retailer will probably flash the new bios and give it back biggrin.gif

Can't wait for peoples reports on stability after updating.
I wouldn't recommend stable out of the box TOP owners to update, as it will probably lower your max boost clocks and OC headroom.

Thing is the TOP models are only unstable when they boost as they were reaching too high clocks. The card I sent back was only boosting stable about 1200 slightly less after an underclock so the card was a bottom of the barrel sample. Had I flashed the new bios the card wouldve been stable out of the box but the limit of that sample wouldve been very low still. Those that are stable boosting at 1280 out of box have good cards, the new bios will only lower the standard boost, there is no reason why the card cant be overclocked to reach that boost again. If it was stable before at that clock it will be stable again but with the clocks manually altered in prefered program too reach that boost. In my opinion this bios will only make increase stability out of the box, it wont make an previous unstable card an ocing monster and neither will it make a golden one a dud, if this does happen then those in charge of the bios release need shooting.

Asus must do 2 things right now:

1. An apology to anyone who have a card that crashed.
2. A rebate check of $30 to anyone who have a card that crashed.

That will make customers happy for the next purchase from Asus. biggrin.gif

Alright I just updated the new bios. My max boost used to be 1260 something (i think 1267) and it would shift back and forth to 1245 and 1215. temps would reach 73-75c in bf3/heaven. Now with the bios update it is almost constant 1215 and drops to 1205 when theres less gpu usage. Temps dont go over 65c. Usually remain around 63-64

*warning* as soon as you click the exe file on the updater it starts updating. It doesn't ask you if you want to continue. I couldn't decide and ended up clicking on it

Gonna try and push it further but doubt it will.

This is what really frustrates me about ASUS as a company.

Problem at launch...

EVGA solution = apologise to their customers, recall affected units and replace with a higher performing product (ie 670 superclocked > 670 FTW)
ASUS solution = no dialogue with customers, release an undocumented .exe which rectifies an obviously flawed binning process by downgrading performance of premium priced product.

Asus GTX 670 DCII non TOP final results smile.gif

Finished with the testing now and after 2hrs of heaven running , 3 loops of 3dmark vantage at extreme settings with no crashing or artifacts its good enough for me to say im stable for the time being. Over the next few days of gaming I will know as good as certain theyre stable if I get no problems.

Final clocks

GPU 1079 (+165)
Boost 1302
Memory 3564 (+560)

PT 122%

Max temp 67degC
Min temp 32degC

Its most likely I could fine tune the numbers and squeeze a little more but the numbers ive got im happy with. Coming from crossfired MSI 6950 TF 3 unlocked and OC to 6970, this card scores just shy of them but with out the stuttering and problems of crossfire which I didnt expect so I couldnt be happier at present.

Heaven @1080p, Shaders High, Textures High, 16x Anisotropy, 8xAA
Score 1314
FPS 52.2
Min FPS 31.4
Max FPS 134.3

thats why I wish EVGA made more custom cards....they mostly sell reference stuff frown.gif .....I honestly feel they will kill the competition if they came out with something similar to DCu2 or Twin Frozr from MSI
