Custom fan profile that is very steep. 70% for 65C, 90% for 70C, and 100% for 75C.

Hello guys,

I have a big issue :

Yesterday, while I was playing Sniper Elite V2, I noticed the game was throttling and suddenly, my screen became black, and one of the fan (I don't know which one) started to make a huge noise.

I quickly shut down my computer and restarted it : I noticed there is like 20% less performance in any games, and when I ran Heaven 3.0, I got 10 fps less than before !!! mad.gif

Here my OC :

622

and here my Heaven values after the crash :

700

compared to before the crash :

700

Also, my curve in GPU Tweak doesn't go up to 1252Mhz with Heaven like before but look :

587

914Mhz !!! Previous the crash it was 1252Mhz !!!

Did my DCUII burn? Should I RMA it ?

(I have to bring you a precision, the previous scores were with 8 Go Memory, and the new scores are with only 4 Go Memory (because I have RMA the other 4Go). But still, that cannot be the explanation, right ?)

@100cotton: these cards are usually among the top 3 670's for low temps. mine was so cool. 58c in heaven on the highest settings, and that's an hour and a half run. BF3 never went above 56c in a 64 player match. I used the fan curve from SeanPoe's guide.

@testset: beware. my card did similar crap, but far more extreme the day I updated to beta driver 304.48. I was getting crap performance in everything. dirt 3 looked smooth for the most part, with occasional hitches. the clock speed was changing from 1087mhz to 647mhz to 387mhz etc. it was a nightmare. borderlands got 21fps and felt awful. I reverted to 301.42 and it got better. for the first minute of dirt 3 it was still running below speed at 1087mhz, but after a minute or two it went back to normal. I updated to Asus new vbios that day. I played some NFS Hot Pursuit and went out. late that night I tried to play BF3 and that's when I was greeted by massive artifacting and crashing. try evga precision X (which I find to be the best software for these cards) or MSI afterburner. if you get the same result, rma the card.

I don't have the TOP card, so I shouldn't upgrade the Asus BIOS, should I ?

I will try with AfterBurner, and if that doesn't work (and even it does frown.gif ) I will RMA it.

Btw, are you sure it isn't because of my 4Gb instead of 8Gb memory I had before ?

just sell your card right now. don't bother with anything else. get another brand quick.

- no need to flash the bios.
- good idea
- it's not because of your ram. I ran games and benchmarks with my 4gb 1333mhz crucial value ram before I got this 16gb set. performance was the same.

Got an Asus 670 DC2 non-top version. unfortunately cant go over 1240 max boost. Since its too hot over here using at 1230 max boost.

i was excited asus was on stock again in my country and got it while there was a discount. if i had to purchase again i would chose Gigabyte or zotac amp version. still happy with noise. %100 fan speed and cant hear it. and only went 66 degrees while playing Batman arkham city which was a very hot day. Batllefield 3 is even lower. dont think i ll ever go over 70degrees while playing any games. still performance wise i wish i had Zotac or Gigabyte

1240 is a pretty good clock. Your not guaranteed to get any better with one of those other cards. I have had the gigabyte and asus and the asus was the better clocker.
