Voltage is set on auto but it's pretty much maxed 100% of the time.
Well then there is your issue...Its going to run hot of course, youve set the voltage max way up and overclocked it! The temp aint just going to stay the same! And it wont OC as high as a TOP card should.

No not stock, because I just want to enjoy games atm I went the lazy way and just bumbed my non-TOP from 915 to the TOP 1058Mhz, then I raised the Max TDP to 124%

EDIT : ASIC quality is 95% if that matters...
Theres nothing wrong with 1200mhz man. You said you just want to enjoy games another 50mhz will do nothing for you. I agree it is running fairly hot. What type of case is it in and how is the air flow. Try turning the fan up. Standard fan profile is 1:1. So when you gpu is at 80c your fan should be at 80%. The fan is pretty quiet on these.

Case is a Corsair 500r. ( that side fan is a little noisy :/ ) and I'm perfectly happy with my 670 !

EDIT: The Kepler boost system is interesting... and quite unpredictable, I have full bust to 1225Mhz in Just Cause and no boost in GW2

I'll play with the fan arrangements to try and improve temp.

( and stop that damn noise from the side fan )

Hey everyone, I had a couple questions about this card. First off, is the back plate removable? I can deal with screws and such but I don't think I want to be drilling out rivets or anything like that. I'm thinking about removing it and painting it.

Next, is it really quieter than the MSI power edition with the TF4? In the Guru3D's reviews they only differ by a decibel or two at full load. Temps are very close too.

Finally, is the TOP version still having stability issues out of the box?

I was also thinking about the gigabyte windforce, so if you guys know what kind of back plates are available for that or the MSI I'm interested. Thanks thumb.gif

yes, it's removable.

yes, it's very likely the quietest gpu with a fan. it's even quiet at 100% fan speed. stock fan profile is a joke. use a custom curve like the one in SeanPoe's guide. mine never got above 58c in Heaven 3.0 max settings and was inaudible.

don't know what to say honestly. mine worked great for a month, then one day, long after all the stress testing and stuff, it dies horribly after I flash to their "fixed" bios that reduces the boost speeds on this premium priced, "binned" gpu. I flashed it because it would boost to 1300mhz and crash/lockup in BF3 sometimes. it's a gamble really. it's foolish to say all issues are fixed because there are still people popping up with failing cards and it's equally foolish to say that the card is definitely faulty.

the gigabyte is on a reference gtx680 pcb and is compatible with gtx680 backplates, so you'll have some options there. if you're worried about problems, it's one of the most popular 670 models and the one I've seen/heard thus far the least amount of issues with.

Lots of great info, thanks smile.gif
Considering the backplate and good noise levels, I'm thinking I'll get it. If I have issues I guess I can return it and try the MSI or the gigabyte. Thanks again =]

The Asus 670 is extremely quiet....I have heard both MSI Twin Frozr 670 and Asus....both at 100% fan speed, the Asus wins hands down....I don't know how much in terms of decibels, but it certainly is much quieter and well worth the consideration for buying the Asus

With that said though, it is a toss up in terms of reliability. Just remember, if stuff goes bad, you will have to deal with Asus support....and I hear its been going severely downhill the past year or so

Well I'm undecided on whether I have good or bad cards as yet. I've bench tested both of my TOP's and the first maxed out at 1328 core and +400 on memory. The second maxed out at 1290 core and +400 memory. The thing is I'm getting artifacts in bf3 in outside maps only and is only in bf3. I tested the game in campaign mode and it runs flawlessly, no artifacts anywhere. I'm starting to think that its a driver issue or a bf3 issue with the multiplier maps? And yes I repeated the tests with zero overclocking but still artifacts. Any thoughts?
