Asus 670 DirectCU II TOP - Page 256

No, of course i still have SLI enabled, I mean i'm thinking of running both cards at different speeds and moving the better overclocking card to slot 1 so that games that don't support SLI will benefit from the higher overclock and the main card in the SLI setup is the quickest. It make about a 5 - 8 FPS difference which to be fair is worth having for nothing.

I just wondered if there's any reason why you WOULDN'T run them at different speeds, for example can it cause stuttering or slow downs?

Testing quickly (1 x run of Heaven 4.0, 1 x run of DIRT 3 Benchamrk, 1 x run of MaxPayne 3 gameplay) it appears just as good running at different core clocks possibly with the benefit of the faster card being overclocked higher.

I thought they only ran as fast as your slower card, but afterburner says the older card got to 1260mhz no problem while the new one continued to run at 1160mhz core, which makes me think differently?

Hope this makes sense?

In my opinion run the better OC in slot 1 and keep them out of sync. For stability go back to H3. My card can do 1411 core @1.212 in everything bar H4, to me H4 appears very buggy with high core OC on my DC2, 1 minute it will run at 1398 for hours then the next time I try run the benchmark I cant pass at 1359.

Forgot to mention I found it easier to find a max oc for sli by testing both cards separately to begin with, you can then rule out any possible faults that may be present in each card.

Thank-you mate. Thats exactly what im going to do now.

Remove my old card, see how far i can go on the new one, move my better one into slot one and then apply the overclocks in SLI and see how they get on smile.gif Will report back!

How are things going?

The OG version is 980 factory core if im not mistaken and the non top is 915 so if you do +150 on old, what is the max boost recorded on msi/evga x, 1255?
For new card to reach near same boost you should only require +85 roughly.

On a side note, have you tried the new top bios flash on non top?, I did this before switching to a volt modded version and the boost seemed more controlled with small bump in voltage (1.162 to 1.175) and for some reason the memory OC was alot better, +150 iirc. Also if youre unhappy with the OC you get from the OG, why not bump the voltage alittle so you match the clocks your other dc2 obtains. If youre worried about temps from higher volts, dont be the DC2 manages very well, I experienced a small 1degC increase clock for clock which may have been caused by ambuent change for all I know.

I found my new card, the gamer OC will run at +90 core and +200 in Msi afterburner it's showing as only 1189mhz?

Anyway I moved my non top into slot one, overclocked both cards to their maximum stable when on their own and in SLi they are crashing frown.gif

Just lowering the clocks on the top one to test for stability

Ok so i think i have things stable now!

Here's the result. Please let me know if you guys think everything looks good or not.

Card 1

Asus Direct CU II GTX 670 2GB NON-TOP
+120 Core, +200 memory (1241mhz core clock)
Idle Temp 32c @ 50% fan speed
Max Temp 71c @ 100% fan speed

Card 2

Asus Direct CU II GTX 670 2GB Gamer OC Edition
+ 80 core, +200 memory (1189mhz core clock)
Idle temp = 28c @ 50% fan speed
Max Temp 58c @ 80% fan speed

Its passed Valley Ultra 1.0 testing, Heaven 3.0 Benchmark and Dirt 3 Benchmark so far without crashing.

The Overclock Edition (slot 2) is only boosting to 1189mhz core despite its factory OC and +80, seems a little low perhaps?

Either way, performance seems great so far!

Hmm, that card really doesnt seem very good unfortunately, very poor boost to be fair considering most cards get over 1200. You dont seem to entertain the volt modded bios, dont want to explore this route?
When I first tested dual cards it was with a 2 6870's. one was great, the other was useless. I had nothing but problems at stock nevermind OC with XF and the microstutter was unbearable so after a week I decided to run with the good one for a few days and the other the next few. During testing the second card it just died so it was a case the card was a bad one and it was replaced with a better card, not great but not far from it. After testing the new card I used this max OC and put back in XF, microstutter was still there which was usual for AMD at the time but otherwise there was no problem.

Since then Ive had XF 6950 unlocked with no problems after repeat testing beforehand and I to plan on getting another ASUS 670 for sli but Ill be sure to avoid the OG and try getting the non top again, factory OC just seem to much of a gamble for ASUS. Ive had 2 tops prior to non top and both were unstable, from the off I wish I had gone the 670FTW route because the DC2 cooler performance is no longer required since I went WC and the blocks for DC2 are very limited supply whereas FTW are reference and the card in general seems less of a lottery, never mind.

I had a TOP originally but had to return it as it was black screening and crashing my system. My NON top has been perfect.

To be honest i'm disappointed with the overclock on my new card BUT performance is incredible, no micro stutter in any of my games, only one of my games doesn't support SLI which is X-Plane 10 . All the others i'm seeing near on 90% + scaling.

1189mhz isn't to be sniffed at but compared to my non top it is rather crap. I'm sure i wont miss 50mhz on the core of the second card too much in SLI.

I picked up the OC Gamer edition for £304 which was a bit of a bargain and the non top wasn't on offer and was priced at £349 so wasnt worth the extra at the time of purchase

The weird thing is you would have thought the OC Gamer being factory overclocked and at +80 core would almost match that of the non-top model but this sadly isnt the case. The non-top has a power % of 122% whereas the OC Gamer only goes to 117% and doesn't even reach 100% very often, whereas the non-top will max out and exceed its power limit.

Back in the day of older drivers i could get 1300mhz core out of my non-top
