Asus 670 DirectCU II TOP - Page 74

I got mine in yesterday and I'm getting some lackluster results on Heaven that I was hoping someone could help me out with. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to high end graphics and benchmarking, so hopefully I've just got something setup wrong.
As you can see in the below image, I'm getting a boost up to 1306 at stock, which seems great. Heaven runs just fine without crashing. Unfortunately you can see that my score and FPS are extremely low compared to a lot of them that have been posted here. Any idea what would cause this? I've left my card completely stock other than changing the fan profile. My system is a 3570K at 3.8 Ghz and 16 GB of RAM. I've got the latest Nvidia drivers installed and it shows I'm running at PCI-E 3.0, so I'm not sure what else it could be.
Thanks for any help/input you can provide!

Your GPU usage does not appear to be hitting 100%, is that correct? If so, do you have adaptive Vsync on in your Nvidia control panel, or running Vsync anywhere else?

I can't understand why you keep trying to make it sound less than it is.
System configuration has nothing to do with it, nor "messy software leftovers".
I tried on two completely different pcs, both with fresh installed win7 64bit and the problem is still there.

I cannot give a specific statistic percent, but fact is that at least 6 or more people in this thread alone are reporting same crashing issues with various configurations and without overclocking.

As an unhappy owner, I would not advise anyone in to choosing the TOP version.

Awesome, thanks! This score looks much better. No issues with running Heaven, so I'm glad to see at least that it's not crashing at stock.

Anything else I should disable/enable to improve performance even more?

Graph looks good, fps/score looks about right since you haven't OCed your mem yet. 1306 stock boost is awesome thumb.gif Now go play with the memory a bit smile.gif

Make sure you don't have FXAA on either, I believe you would be doubling up on that since heaven has its own AA setting.

Also suggest going with a custom fan curve, it'll bring you temps down a bit. You don't want it to hit 70C+, it'll start to throttle the clock.

You can start with a simple 1:1 curve like
0-40 - 40%
50 - 50%
60 - 60%...

What are the max memory overclocks everyone is receiving (stable)? I'll be putting this card through trials and stress tests all weekend to see if the card is "actually" stable with voltages and power target pushed all the way up and not pretending to be for another 28 days so I can't RMA with newegg.

Not to downplay my heartbreak and disappointment that my TOP didn't work out of the box (i.e. with out removing gputweak and maxing out pwr target and voltage)...but our cards seem to be the most OC'd out of factory; good amount beyond what the FTW's are getting out of box boost clocks (http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1611842&mpage=1). Anyone think it may just be that we're all hitting the limits of the chips (of course, those with 1300+ being the lucky few/exceptions)?

That score looks accurate before overclocking. Nice to see a working one. Mine was suppose to come Monday, but they are delivering it today so hopefully mine is as good as yours smile.gif

If you want to get the number up, it looks like its time to start the OC. Move the core voltage up like +10 and the memory +400. Run it again. If it crashes, just lower the core voltage down a little each time until it does not crash. Vice versa, move it up if it does not crash at +10. Keep doing that until you find the max it can go happily.

Increasing the allowed power will help as well.

Well I just read the last 3 pages. So far I am another guy who has crashes with the Asus gtx 670 direct cu top.
20mhz downclocking and the card works fine. But than I have only a boost of arround 1190Mhz.

I payed more money for the Asus overclocking and it doesn't work on stock settings.
And if I would like to sell the card in maybe 2 years on ebay, the buyer would be extremly dissappointed of getting a crashing card from me..
But if I would mention the requireable downclock, nobody would buy the card.

Thats why I send it back. Poor overclocking is ok for me, but crashing in stock is definitifly not acceptable!
However I really do like the performance, so if available again I will buy it and hopefully have more luck.

How do you tweak core voltage on an Asus gtx 670 dct? I thought you need a hardware mod for that?
As far as I know you can only tweak Tdp limit, Gpu clock offset, memory clock offset and fan speed

Will this handle 1440p fine? With gaming?
What if I do 120hz?

It should be fine, I game at 2560x1600 and do it without issues.

You CAN'T tweak voltage on any currently released 670/680. The sliders do nothing. Kepler will adjust voltage dynamically based on current clockspeed and TDP limit. That's the extent of your voltage control.

That, or a hardware mod.

I was hitting 100% power out of the box, so I upped the power target to 105% and my card seems to do 1280 stock. Doesn't seem to be able to handle +20 core which was giving me the magic 1300mhz sad-smiley-002.gif. I'll be doing some benching tonight with my brother as he just build his IB pc last night so we are having a benchoff. biggrin.gif
