going on vacation... leave water running?

Thread Starter 
Ok, so i am going on vacation for a week.... Should i leave my pc on or shut it off? i would rather off for obvious reasons... but will it mess up any of my blocks, tubes, pump, etc? I don't want to come home to a corroded or nasty loop... I know the system doesn't leak at all as i leave it on 24/7 since i use it ALL the time.

wont hurt to leave it off i usualy leave my pc on 24/7 but if no one will be home it cant hurt to turn it off to be safe to make sure no surges hit your area and cause any problems.

so no damage will be done with the water just sitting there and not moving then? i have the kill coil in there but that really only helps if the water is flowing.

not really. ive had my computer running for 3 moths straight with the exception of maybe 3-4 days and my electric bill hasnt gone up any noticeable difference. computers dont cost much to idle.

I don't see what damage still water would do, provided you sealed your setup nice and decently and provided you used distilled water and not tap water.

Best to take a look here. In short, it tells you that leaving the PC on for a whole year will cost you about 600$. Mind you, that was in the days when people still used a CRT monitor and electricity prices were - in comparison to what they are now - fairly cheap.

Best to take a look here. In short, it tells you that leaving the PC on for a whole year will cost you about 600$. Mind you, that was in the days when people still used a CRT monitor and electricity prices were - in comparison to what they are now - fairly cheap.

my computer costs 130 a year to idle according to local rates. his rate of .36 per KWH is a bit off.

It costs me about $0.75/day to keep my CPU running folding@home 24/7. But if he ain't using it then there is no reason to keep it on. Even w/ coolants that separate over time, a week isn't going to cause any damage.

And even if the OP were a month or more away, he could always ask his GF or father or friend to run his PC once in a while while he's gone.
