I'm afraid I won't be able to do that after all. I forgot that my friend was going out of town today and I didn't catch him.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this further without a swap of CPU? I could try and POST test the mobo outside of the case if you think that'd help.

Also, I want to make sure my system is getting ample power. 550W should be enough for my setup. Should I be connected directly to a wall socket? I'm curently connected to a power strip (the PC is the only component plugged into the strip though) because the nearest wall socket is in a rather inconvenient place.

Bumping the post.

I could afford to buy a new component right now. I'm thinking on getting a new motherboard, but I must know first, could a faulty CPU break a mobo? Like, if this CPU wars the culprit after all, would it break the new mobo? From what I've understood online, a CPU with broken (bent) pins can burn out a motherboard in the long run, but could/would the effects be immediate?

So, which one should I replace first in your opinion? The mobo or the CPU?

So, a small update for now

I opened up the PC and took out the CPU to inspect it for possible bent or otherwise broken pins. Don't worry, I discharged static before I touched the CPU by touching the case while the PSU was connected to a grounded wall socket.

So, yeah, no bent or otherwise unhealthy looking pins were found. Also, the frontside of the CPU was crisp clean (after wiping off the thermal paste).

I then turned the PC on with no CPU installed. I know it's not even supposed to work, but is it normal for it to give no beep codes whatsoever? The case fans spun like they would if I were to try and boot with one of the faulty DIMM slots, but other than the case fans and the drives spinning it gave nothing.

I also powered on with no CPU or no RAM, but again, I received no beep codes from the board.

So yeah. Is it normal to receive no beeps like this, or should I at least be getting the beeps indicating the lack of memory?

I didn't have enough time now to take out the mobo for a board POST test, but I likely will do that tomorrow or saturday.

Hey guys, MAJOR UPDATE!

So anyway, today I finally found the time to take the board out of the case and try it on a static free surface and guess what, it POSTed with all 4 DIMM slots in use! I was shocked! I tried this multiple times with a 100% POST success rate.

So what do I do now? Is it safe to say it's a short that's causing my problems? If so, what should I do to troubleshoot it?

I now re-seated the brackets holding the mobo up and installed the PC back into the case. I got it to POST, again with all the DIMM slots in use.

I won't have time to run any stress tests today but I'm sure to do that tomorrow. I'll keep you updated (in case anyone IS actually reading this thread.)

memtest the RAM. If it fails, that's your problem. Prime95 the CPU when and if you can get into windows. Try all settings (blend, max power, max FPU stress). If that fails, CPU/mobo is the culprit - depending on which settings you used.

Check out the system tab in event viewer. If there's a kernel 41 error but no bugcheck/BSOD, it's a PSU issue.

Make sure your CPU temps are within range, make sure your CPU cooler is seated properly, and make sure there's enough airflow for it. Also, check your BIOS settings and make sure nothing has been tampered with.
