7970 coil whine, a way to fix it? *solved* - Page 3

Lol I love how many people say to turn the speakers up super loud, or just wear headphones... I think I would need a new girlfriend if I sat with a headset on all day while she listened to my coils whine.

This whining issue has made me decide on an Asus GTX 670 TOP - AMD is losing me for now, and forever if Piledriver flunks like Bulldozer did.

Seems like coil whine is more uncommon on Nvidia cards because Nvidia did something to reduce it. I don't get any coil whine from my Radeon
7750 however, of course I think coil whine is only prevalent on the upper end cards that require a lot of juice.

Looks like theres a very very little coil whine still present, but only on some game's main menu screen. Crysis 2 for example. Though i really have to focus and put my ear really close to the case in order to hear it, it doesnt bother at all.

Updated thread title as well.

My friend has a gtx 680 jetstream and the coil whine on that one is pretty bad.

Sorry for bringing an old thread back up!

I came along this topic so i subscribed myself to ask this question:

I have an ati saphire 7970 also with the same noise (coil whine) while playing games. The noise goes louder along with the frames per second i noticed.

I will try the fix that Perkeleprkl has found but was wondering if it won't damage the gpu?
Im no expert when it comes to hardware but leaving the gpu on for 2 nights with the coil whine at its max doesn't sound to healthy. How come the sound disappears after doing that?

Don't get me wrong im happy this works and i will try it as soon as i can! just wondering if it won't burn anything up (maybe the part that makes the noise?)

Thanx in advance for any help!

I would think it would be okay if temps are alright. I wouldn't leave the monitor on though.

I've noticed coil whine while I'm seeing a lot of Post FX Processing on the screen also. I honestly don't care myself, because my card isn't that loud and the sadistic side of me actually enjoys listening to it while I bench.

Edit: Started offering solutions before I remembered that he fixed it 10 posts back.

Did you ever fix the problem using the same method as the OP?
