Evo doesnt have gap between heatpipes so lines method is a no-go.

For what it's worth, I've used both the credit card spread and the pea-sized blob methods of spreading the TIM with the Hyper 212 Evo, and performance was pretty much the same. I used the TIM that came with the cooler. Unfortunately one of the cores on my 3770K runs ~7C hotter than the others, and it rises to over 90C even with stock voltage settings and a moderate 4.4 GHz overclock.

Theres such a thing as too much TIM. tongue.gif

Spread is really one of the worst ways actually. I used to use the spread method when I was younger. Now for direct touch heatpipe coolers I use two small lines right under the inner most heatpipes. The lines are only one third the length of the cpu's heatspreader. After a lot of testing I found that to give the best and most consistent results compared to any other method.

Application of TIM makes so much more difference than quality of TIM.

There still are gaps between the heatpipes, despite them being smaller than the 212+. In any case line method is still probably best here.

Lol, tell me, what are your temps / oc at then?

I really don't know what spread you have in mind,

but my method is similiar to the credit card method,

But seriously,

Its entirely even across the core when I do it.

Im OCD, I assure its even...

Smush, squash, what ever method you do,

its your fancy.

If you take your time, it will come out right. doh.gif

what difference does it make if its a even circle in the middle versus the entire HS ?

Nothing. other than uncovered IHS.

ever consider when using the other methods and your HS slips?

you gotta start all over.

I like to get mines in one go.

Can Hyper 412 Slim/212 EVO and high profile RAM go along with my micro ATX board? I plan to buy a HyperX T1 RAM(dual) and choosing between 412 Slim or 212 EVO . I'm looking at my ATX board and it looks like the CPU and DIMM slots are close together for the two items.

Here is the link

you can put the fan on the other side of the EVO so it pulls air trough the cooler..

450

my RAM is not as tall as yours but still has rather tall heat spreaders.. also i havernt tried yet until the chimp challenge is over is to put a fan to on the RAM side to use push/pull but will have to slide the fan up the heatsink.. i would say the heatsink is fine but the fan would be the problem smile.gif

i am using an ATX board but by the looks the sock to the first RAM slot looks to be the same as an mATX board
