Thanks for all the inputs and suggestions. But everything is still up in the air. I'm also thinkin about Core2Duo. Is core2duo possible with a $500 budget?

No not really worth going to conroe for $500, maybe I would consider it for $700 and upwards.

well the $500 price range will consist only of processor, motherboard, ram, case, psu, and video card. I already have the HDD and the dvd drive.

Ok then, try this:

Motherboard: ECS P965T-A (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX -$70.99- (After $20 MIR)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz 2MB Cache -$183.00-
RAM: 1GB OCZ S.O.E DDR2-800 CL5 -$124.99-
Graphics Card: 256MB PNY GeForce 6600 -$49.99-
Case & PSU: Antec NSK 4400 ATX Mini Tower w/380W PSU -$69.99-

Total = $518.96 + Shipping

Problem is there arent that many low end good conroe motherboards. I still reckon for $500 you would be much better off getting an AM2 system with a dual core cpu like the 3800+/4200+.
