anyone recommend the phenom II 955 black edition? - Page 2

hello Woosh,
iam with warefare on this,to sort your problem would be more fun than not.in my opinion i would not swop my fx for that chip,i had a athlon II x4,it not a 955 but a bench against my fx makes it look sad,my athlon II x4 @ 3250 just managed to get near 4000,while the fx gets near 8000,why would i change back? and looking at the cpu mark for that 955,its rubbish.its near 4000 vs near 7000 again.

fx is also better value.

What exactly are the "problems" you are having with the 8120? What are the entire system specs? I've already seen examples of people having "problems" with the 6100 and they all had one thing in common, the same 970 board (m5a97 pro) and considering it boils down to a vrm issue while OC'ing the 8120 would suffer the same "problems" with that board.

i could not ever get a stable overclock no matter what i tried. i been tryin all afternoon and think ive cracked it. i thought i did disable ALL power savings and turbo core when overclockin but i didnt. i managed a simple OC straight to 4ghz and run a stress test and got great idle and load temps so im quite pleased now i know it isnt my chip. it was just me bein a doughnut and didnt disable everythin right. ive been through all this with the new buyer and he is fine with it all. he is more of an enthusiast than me so it will be better going to him as all im doing to this setup is selling it. it is the phenom II 955 (c2 steppin) model but im not to worried as we both are getting a good deal out of it, as he is chucking in a gigabyte water cooling sytem and a radeon 4870. (spare stuff he doesnt use) thanks for all the advice and help from you all too. and sorry ive just wrote an essay ^^^ thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

That's a pretty dated CPU you are getting. C2 stepping is fairly old at this point. I wouldn't do it. Now if that was a unlockable 960T or a Thuban, yeah. Gigabyte w/c has to be a p.o.s., and the 4870 is maybe worth $60. Brand new 960T's can be had for $100-120 so you are losing about $100. Good luck with that.redface.gif

You'd be better off selling the 8120 and buying a new CPU.

How about this, before you go and lose money on the sale of the 8120 and then shell out more for a replacement, how about you list complete system specs and let me help you OC the 8120 and THEN you can make a decision on if it is something you want to keep or not.

Edit - as Redwoodz can attest I've been sleeping inside my PC case since I picked up the 6100 tongue.gif
