In September 2008 Google’s Chrome browser was a measly 3.1% according to w3schools.com, but in a mere three years Chrome has managed to surpass Internet Explorer and Firefox in browser usage. As of April 2012, Chrome’s usage was 38.3%, followed by Firefox with 35.8% and 18.3% from IE.

Tried it; didn't like it. I'm sticking to my trusty old Firefox wink.gif

Uh, right. Like you even NEED to configure Firefox unless you are a non-average user.

For Firefox to have a chance at being objectively better than Chrome, add-ons/customization are required. That's how it seems to me, anyway.

I used firefox for years. I liked it, always have. Not to mention that I sometimes have effort trying to transit between programs and thus don't like switching browsing.

But as a normal user (who uses his pc for internet, games, movies, music) I got hooked to chrome after the first 5 minutes of use.

It's sleek (no crap buttons or layout, just tabs), easy, not cluttered. But it's mainly fast in bootup, very fast. While firefox takes a few seconds, chrome is already open way faster. which is good as I often like to close programs I'm not using, including browsers, which I open en close when needed.

I honestly don't give a crap if it's 'faster in rendering,...' because honestly those 'speedstats' I've never really noticed any speed differences really.

The only fact about chrome I don't like is the fact that extensions take alot of ram. tabs do to, but that's not a problem as I never have more then 20 open at a time, 10 tops. Mozilla though doesn't use memory/tab, it already takes a big chunk even when just one tab is open.

He has a point.

Launch Firefox on a newly installed OS, you'll have no bookmarks, no saved passwords, unless you use Sync, which isn't suggested by Firefox, so you have to go through the settings to configure that, it requires a weird key that (if you lose it) is hard to remember and useless apart from that feature.

Launch Chrome, it asks if you have a gmail account, boom everything is synced. Bookmarks, addons, passwords...

Anyway, I still prefer Firefox for its adblocker. Much, much better than Chrome.

I used to be a Firefox user like you, but then I took a Chrome in the knee.. And now I am stuck with it.. Simple, light and snappy, methinks. But I haven't used any other browser for quite some time now.

I find Chrome to be kind of creepy, personally.

8309376.gif

When I clicked that thing to install it one time? I expected an .exe - I was definitely *not* impressed by the sudden "O HAI INSTALLING CHROME NAO" I suddenly got on my screen. Stealth installers when you click things? That's begging for accidental virus installation at the click of a mouse button.

Then Chrome's stealth updates and random interface changes from version to version? Also annoyed me and made me a little creeped. I like to know if my browser or indeed any other software has an automatic update waiting to go.

That's why I finally went back to Firefox when I upgraded the computer I'd been using Chrome on, and had to reinstall Windows.

All the above being said, I'm pleased that there is, oince again, effective competition among browsers instead of the heavy IE dominance for almost a decade.

Assuming the person uses GMail, or ever had their bookmarks synced with it to begin with.
