Even if there is a "bottleneck", he isn't being crazy with 3 680s or anything, so it's not a big deal. Definitely ditch the 2 cards though. Should stabilize things.

Correct.

One card, even a 7970, would be pushed to 99% with that FX cpu.

fx cpus arnt as weak as some think. overclocked they could take amy single and most dual gpu setups. hell, in most games itd be fine with dual 7970s or 680s.

You seem to not understand my point.

Will most games be fine with an FX cpu and dual 7970s? Yes they will be "fine" I never said they were unacceptable.

That being said.

Will most games benefit from a faster Intel cpu and dual 7970s? Yes it they will. Minimum framerates will be better than with an FX cpu

Is an FX cpu more than "fine" yes of course it is and it is silly to say otherwise but facts are facts Intel will perform better with multi gpu setups compared to AMD.

That doesn't mean AMD fails or that Intel is required in order to play these games...

It's IPC that Intel has over AMD, and that's where a 2500k at 4Ghz will pull ahead of BD at 4Ghz, regardless of game. It's multi-threaded programs that can utilize Bulldozer better.

There is a bottleneck, because your not pegged at 99%, but other issues can get in the way, like stuttering and IO bottlenecks. There is nothing wrong with FX, it's just not as fast clock for clock as it should be, and that's why Intel excels in that area.

Just a note to some of the responses here:

Pegged 99% usage is highly unlikely to occur with every game, let alone game engine, driver set, and so on. Some games may allow for full-fledged usage but others won't. Arcania Gothic 4 is a great example - totally crap usage because coding wasn't spectacular. Other reasons that drop usage from being 'pegged' are AA levels, AO settings, and so on.

It might seem like an epeen or troll thread but Im glad the guy put this up. The AMD hate has gotten so bad online that you cant even type the letters "AMD" without hordes of Intel trolls flooding in to tell you that you wont even be able to boot into Windows with an AMD proc. Its getting ridiculous and you cant even have a discussion and an AMD processor without having to constantly fend off and defend against thread crapping.

We all know Intel is faster than AMD but that doesnt mean you cant have an extremely capable gaming rig with a FX chip. A thread like this helps to show that. So well done Malo! thumb.gif
